Mexico’s newest airport has already lost its shine.

Exploring the world one toilet at a time.
Tulum was the cool place to be, until they opened the airport there. Just two years in and already seeing fewer passengers and reduction in service.

I’d be curious to see if the other tourist places are also seeing the same trends (Cabo, Cozumel, Cancun).

I read somewhere else where guests were being charged for beach access and other things in Tulum. If people feel like they’re being taken advantage of they’ll probably just go to Cancun and deal with the party scene.

And Mallorca is where American guys go to get trafficked by UK strippers who get their paychecks from russian thugs. I can say that with at least some authority.
Story time? You didn't do anything wrong. Don't blame yourself. Much. Certainly don't tell your wife.

My guess is Tulum suffers from a name recognition problem as well as ground service/tourist infrastructure problems. It appears they are attempting to connect the airport to some rail services that would make it really convenient to get to some of the southern area resorts. The rail they are planning is pretty interesting really. I think long term this could be a successful airport, but the demand just isnt there yet.

heard this thru some long trans con conversation with the JS'ers...

Tulum's new airport is FAR from the hotels and resort areas (like 90+ min) and it's apparently very expensive due to limited accommodation and because of this demand is not meeting expectation.

now throw in crew logistics and it becomes a huge problem.
