Meteorology

Is anyone majoring or minoring in Applied Meteorology? If so, how is the program and what kind of jobs are out there for you after you graduate?

I have been accepted into ERAU's Aero Sci program and I am interested in Meteorology as a backup.

If you want to fly, do the Aero Sci degree and I would minor in Meteorology. I wish they had a Meteorology minor when I went there...

Dont' dispatchers need a meteorology degree or something along those lines? I always thought that that might be a cool job to have but WX is not my best subject....

If you want to persue a dispatch certificate while your majoring in Aero Sci, the only 2 wx classes you need are Met 1 & 2 (WX201&WX352). In addition to those classes you need aeronautics 3 (AS270), aerodynamics (AS309) , & aircraft performance (AS310). After taking those classes you then take Dispatch (AS410) near graduation. They have switched catalogs recently, so i would still check with the dispatch advisor. That is what I was told for my catalog at DAB.

Well if you can't be a dispatcher then go meteorology or even double minor in safety too. The way the catalog works at the PRC campus is that you need 120 credits to graduate and the aeronautical science degree and the professional pilot area of concentration drops you out with like 112 credits or something. Met I and II are required classes for Aero Sci and count towards the 15 credits required for a minor, so 120-112 equals go professional pilot, get the extra class work out of that (by the time you get to it maybe they'll have upgraded those 727 sims...which were actually really cool to fly) and you get the meteorology minor which does come in really handy, especially when you get to real world flying and you need to know what the weather's doing right now. Just make sure you take Thunderstorms, WX Information for Flight Crews and Radar and Satellite Analysis. It's the most useful information I've found.

That's my...well if a credit's $1000 now...then that's $9000 worth. Glad I started when it was $620 a credit.
