Anyone flying near DTW tonight around 8pm? The news is reporting that there was a sonic boom felt in Detroit. My fiancé saw the flash from inside the house south of Toledo.

From somebody with an Ohio State avatar I figured this would be more of a celebration that state up north was going to be punished by an astronomical event....

I have a crazy irrational fear of one striking my airplane coming back on a redeye. Things you think about at 3am.
I was crossing one of the Great Lakes in a Dash 8 years ago during some big name meteor shower. It was late (we were delayed, obviously) and we had a great show.

One of those late nights, cockpit lights dimmed down as low as they’d go, ATC quiet, cockpit quiet, just a couple of pilots admiring the awe of the career we had been blessed with.

Then the long, peaceful silence is broken by my captain saying “man, it would suck major dick if one of those things hit us, huh?”

It's funny how often I'll be mid conversation in cruise at night and go "WOAH shooting star!" and then just continue the conversation. Captain's probably think I'm seeing things. With all the North Korea stuff lately, sometimes my first thought is "oh boy, here we go"

I had one go underneath me one night over Kentucky.

Craziest damn thing I've ever seen.
Not while flying, but driving through west Texas in the middle of the day I caught what must have been an absolutely tiny one shooting down, looked like it couldn't have been very far from the highway. Just a quick little white streak with a few specs falling off of it.

Ha! I certainly would have gotten a chuckle if that thing had landed at the big house. We could have confirmed that God is a Buckeye fan

I was doing CHA to ORD last night when it went by at our 1 oclock. It was pretty incredible and naturally guard blew up for the next 10 minutes.

I think I saw the flash from this, if it happened at 7:05 a.m. We saw a bright light from the cockpit at the gate in GRR but didn't know what it was.
