It's Thunderstorm season again. Just thought I would post this metar. The translation for all this: Trailers are flying in Alabama!

Dont have my aviation weather services book handy, so can someone remind me what CONS LTGIC ALQDS CB ALQDS means?

Try sounding it out.

Continous Lighting in Clouds All Quadrants. Cumulus Building All Quadrants.

That's just a guess on my part, but I think it is right. That said, I still run across strange ones that I've never seen before.

LTGIC = in cloud ligtning. ALQDS = all quadrants of the sky. CB = cumulonimbus.

Thanks for the practice, I am going for my Com. green ride this week and still get confused on some of those METARS.

Its time to bring in the plastic lawn (Nascar watching) furniture...

Pk Wind 290 degrees at 47 kts at 0625Z TS Began at 25 after the hour and Rain Began 25 after the hour Pressure Rising Rapidly Constant Incloud lightning all quadrants, Cumm-nimbus all quads moving Northeast.. There has been 0 precip in both the 3 and 6 hour time frames

LTGICCCCG---thats a wonderful one that FL gets all the time. along with the ALQDS and TCU, CB and all that.

Two "big ole" thunderstorms came by last night - 3am and 5am. Spectacular lightning and thunder.

We needed the rain, but I am tired now!

I recently flew into an airport which, after we went around, reported a METAR nearly exactly the same as that, just with higher winds. Long story, but what a night. Nothing I want to do again. It is going to be a long, long summer.

pretty much...god will strike you down if you dare try to go outside.

Here are three METAR's I saved from a flight just under a year ago (May 8, 2005) where I landed about 10 minutes before this thing hit squarely on the airport. It hit fast and hard, and we got to see a Learjet go missed just as it hit. He was being tossed really well trying to climb out.

As you can see by the third METAR, just over a half an hour later the entire thing was gone.
