Message to the Big Boys (Airline Pilots)

No you are just in the military... My Dad was a Drill Sgt. and served 25+yrs. I (by default) am the same way.

hey - you wrote in crayon too? I didn't have to scrub it cuz they tried and couldn't get it off...so my parents had to paint.. man was I in trouble!

my parents got smart real quick when we moved into our house, they put up wallpaper that is crayon/marker/paint/little kid resistant. basically just need a shot of 409 and a rag and it comes right off. i think that was the smartest thing they did!

My company also gave out free newspapers so after all of the passengers left, it'd look like a recycling plant in the cabin afterwards.

Not as a rule, but some of the outstations had limited cleaning equipment. Honestly I never cleaned up the puke. I called the company and told them to get a cleaning crew. They always did.
 
I know that nowadays (not like "back in my day" was a long time ago) you could say you aren't qualified since you haven't been trained in blood born pathogens and could mishandle the "protein spill." If they push it, call OSHA. Worked for me about six months at Disney. They sent me through the class, and it STILL worked six months after I'd been through the class. One supervisor got wise to me, though. He made me start cleaning them up. I think it was a "protein spill" at Disney and a "Signal 92" at Universal and Sea World. They don't like you saying "Hey, someone puked on the Hulk again" over the radio.

'Course this was Mesa. There may have been a clause slid into the pilot contract that says you HAVE to clean it.

Crayon, and for some reason, I thought that strawberry jelly would look good on the wall also.

I still remember cleaning that up when my mom found out. Boy, was she pissed. I got the full first, middle, and last name treatment.

However it was never specifically stated or addressed in Mesa training. Eagle training told us however, "Pilots DO NOT do bodily fluids!"

At Mesa, in the CRJs, they installed kits in one of the medical boxes that included gloves, a mask, and what I call a "body bib." We were told that only the FAs were allowed to use those kits.

Of course this doesn't help the 1900 drivers any. ha ha!

The company was good about it back then, they would hire someone to come in and clean up the real messes. I hope it is the same now.
