Mesaba Flight Ops Intern

Hey Y'all,

So I got a phone call today and talked to a lady in HR for Mesaba and have an interview set up in two weeks for it.

About the position: It's an unpaid summer internship (3 mo's duration) that can be FT (40hrs) or PT (20hrs) and it's kind of an all encompassing position.

Question: Anyone here had this position, work at Mesaba and known previous interns, or know anything about the work load of this position?

Interview experiences would be appreciated

I know it's unpaid, but sitting at 850TT with no active prospects and being pt employed as a fuel truck driver is all I got so I can't do the FT thing, hoping they'll let me do it PT.

I wouldn't do it if you are hoping to get hired by them as a pilot in the next couple of years because they won't be hiring for pilots for sometime it looks like with all the furloughing.

Would you get lower mins when they do start hiring if you took this internship? I did an internship at ExpressJet in 2008 and they lowered it to 400 total/100 multi. Wonder if that's still valid...

Probably not valid in today's environment. But I like the idea of working for an airline that will "use" me for my free services and not even consider me in the future for a job :sarcasm:

Taking some time to read up on the company's operations and structure and stuff. I'm still going to consider it because it's a good chance to do some networking, and it'll be a new experience. Yeah it's free and yeah it's temporary, but the more bridges I have, the easier it'll be for my career in the future. Interview is 0900 tomorrow.

Are you in school now? I see your profile says Sioux grad. I was under the impression that you needed to be a 'current' student in order to be considered for this.:dunno:

When I received the phone call or informal first interview, Kristin from HR talked to me about that. It usually is for low time college students but I said I was applying for it because I wanted Air Carrier exposure and that I can bring alot to the table having already worked in a corporate part 91 flight department. That and I don't have to relocate and "if deemed worthy of a longer lasting more permanent position", I don't have to wait to graduate college or anything. She didn't seem to think that being a grad was going to put me out of the running by any means.

I thought it was pretty convincing. I atleast got another interview.
