Mesaba Class Date

jforte - Curious, did you request the RJ or was it just open at the time of hire? Did you have any input during interview for base/acft? Finally, how long of a ground school is the 200?

As far as the RJ VS. the Saab, they do not give you a choice at the interview. Once you are hired, they will give you a choice of Domiciles and class dates. I had a choice between Dec. 3 Saab class based in Memphis or the RJ class on Dec. 31 based in Minneapolis. Naturally, I chose the RJ. The training is 6 weeks total and ground is 3 weeks. Have you applied/interviewed with Mesaba? Or just looking for the future?

You will enjoy the training here, they do a good job. I was hired Oct 8th and it has been a good experience. There are positives and negatives to both aircraft. The Saab is what you will upgrade in, so it would be nice to fly it before you have to take charge. The Barbie jet is ok but you would have made off great if you got the mighty 900, hehe. Either way you will eventually upgrade into an aircraft you have not flown before. The other pilots here are great, and I really liked all of the captains in my class.
 
I have applied and I am currently awaiting an interview date. My one source from within has nothing but good things to say about the people at Mesaba. Although flying the 900 would be nice, I agree with B that it would be more beneficial to have FO experience in the aircraft to be upgraded in. With that said, what is the expectation on upgrade time frames in the 200 once all are on property?

And gave up 75 #'s in senority so I can tell my friends I'm on the jet.
 
yea the Saab is a hard airplane to learn, I would not my ATP / type ride to be in it without any time in it. Something I am worried about here at Colgan.

Hey everyone im new to Jetcareers forum. I got hire by Mesaba in mid October, and have a class date of Jan 14th @ MSP, so far i have been told CRJ900 and SF340 will be available. Any suggestions for a new FO?
 
Depends how fast you want to upgrade or can. If you have closer to 1,000 I would say go saab if not maybe you want to be on the jet. I would call HR every day and try and get in an earlier class if you can. Seniority is the key!
 
"WalterSobchak".....I am VERY interested in flying for Mesaba. I spoke with them at a career fair a few weeks ago. I know the posted minimums but are guys getting hired with less? I'm graduating from college this December and don't quite have 600 tt but, would it be wiser to meet the 600 total time requirement or the 50 multi for chances of getting an interview? Mesaba is definitely #1 on my list and I'm just trying to get some more info.....

SmoothlanderJ: They are hiring with less. I know from personal experience. If you are close, get the resume in ASAP.
 
Definitely apply below mins, I just finished training and there were more than a couple guys with less than 600, im not sure about the 50 multi. I've heard on the interview they may start making you do ndb approaches and dme arch's b/c people get to sims and can't do them well or have never done them...just a heads up. Good luck!
 
Good stuff guys...I will definitely get the application in soon then. I really would like a MEM base, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

...O and I've got a Night IFR cross country in a Seminole tonight so, I'm trying to keep my instrument skills up to par
