Mesa Airlines

I enjoyed my time at Mesa akin to the way John McCain enjoyed his time as a guest of the North Vietnamese government; the camaraderie with the crews was huge but everything else was designed to be as painful as possible. We were in negotiations at the time and management's idea was to make everything as horrible as possible so that we would expend our negotiating capital on "cost neutral" QoL improvements.
 
Looks like the JC Mafia got tired of PSA and has moved on to Mesa.

SouthernJets makes you pay for your uniform and last I checked that's required to do the job.

Mesa guys, keep your head up. You have a great future ahead of you. Don't mind the grizzled right seat vets still carrying 50 pound brain bags. Don't blame them for venting having to carry those things around.

EFBs are about number 374 on my list of 375 most important things about my job.

I almost had an accident a few months ago because a 370 was behind me most of the way to work. I couldn't stop looking in my mirrors.

I love my WRX, but it's not a pretty car.

Not really. Paying for an initial uniform has unfortunately become industry standard. EFBs are all over the place right now in the regional sector. Some places pay for them, some give the pilots a choice, and now Mesa is going ultra cheap by forcing them. The idea is to set the standard high to begin with. ALPA @ Mesa seems to be blowing it.

Funny enough he is using Delta as an example as they are handing out free EFBs to their pilots as we speak. Mainline gets their EFBs provided to them. Ultimately it is an apples/oranges argument in more ways than one.

Every time the company changes what EFBs are authorized for use the pilots would have to go out and buy new EFBs. "Hey guys we are going to Surfaces now" has happened in the short history of EFBs. If Apple decides to stop supporting a specific version of their iPad (about every 2-3 years) the company will likely change the require iPad version. Broken EFBs on the job would also come out of the pilot's pocket.

Ah, move up the food chain! Why didn't I think of that?

I've been flying for 11 years, no busted checkrides, an engineering degree with academic honors, LORs from every place I've worked at, and am a regional FO because I don't want to move up the food chain... Gee, I guess I'll give Delta a call next week and tell them it's time I move up the food chain!

As far as differences in regionals, yeah... I'm sure from your lofty perch they all look the same. But here in the trenches, I think it's safe to say there's a heck of a difference in QOL at my employer compared to some of the other stuff out there, for several reasons.
