NWA/DL is a rumor that's been around for literally years. I wouldn't get to worked up about it.

AGREED.
Yeah Jetblue has a cool terminal in JFK which makes em attractive, however JFK and DL's problems at that airport go way beyond the facility they operate out of.
NWA got the Pacific, and some super cash cow cargo routes going over there. DL wants to get all up in that.
The Alaska rumor is a first for me...never heard of that one.
Anyways a few weeks ago DL sent all of us a letter talking about seniority protection in the event of a merger and all that which raised a few eyebrows at work. Alot of people people who were there during the whole PanAm debacle (sp) back in the 90s were not at all happy about how it was done. They werent cool with people coming in from a defunct carrier and bumping them. If it is NW it would sure suck to be a DL ground employee in MSP, DTW, or MEM if its a PanAm-esk type thing.

Only speaking for pilots here, but Delta would have relatively little to say about seniority protection. That would be determined by a series of negotiations.
First, the two pilot groups' Merger Committees would negotiate and try to come up with a merged seniority list. If that was unsuccessful, they would present their cases to a neutral arbitrator.
The AAA/AWA list merger has been an ongoing nightmare for almost two years and it still isn't finished.
For other labor groups, Delta would have to deal with other unions even though their group is non-union. All unions have successorship clauses in their contracts, but I'm not up to speed on the details.

So what's up with the Delta-Air France merger.
Yea, I know it's not a real merger, just similar to the KLM-NWA agreement.
But, it's as pretty close legally as you can come to a merger.
It's kinda like grinding somebody with your clothes on. Eventually the same result will happen, just the same as if you both had been nude!
