Merger Mania... Who's Next?

Is this a normal part of the cycle for airlines? I don't know much about airline history, and this is the first time in my adult life to have seen so many major companies become one.

Based on recent history, I don't think Airways will find a nice dance partner unless copious amounts of adult bevvies are imbibed all around.

Delta purchases Skywest/Acey/Jetlink in order to bring all their feed "under one roof."

The press release states that through the synergies created through doing everything in house, and the resultant reduction in extra management staff, the consumer will reap the benefits.

Additionally, Delta will be able to keep the quality of their product high no matter which plane you're flying on.

It will be heralded as a new dawn for airlines, attempting to emulate the success of other industries (such as the legal industry) where multiple services are done in house for clients, providing seamless integration.

Delta will put up 25 year fences between the RJ's and mainline equipment, creating B scale wages for the RJ's.

In 10 years, Delta will spin off Skywest/Acey/Jetlink in an IPO, but agreeing to keep contracts with the company for an additional 5 years.

At the end of 5 years, Delta will split the regional CPAs in order to whipsaw regional airlines against each other, screaming that the flying costs too much.

10 years later, Delta will purchase Skywest/Acey/Jetlink for pennies on the dollar after bankrupting them.

You heard it here first.

Won't American have to do something soon just to keep their head above water?

JB?
REP?
Alaska?

The New Sothnjetz - 794 Aircraft
The New United - 710 Aircraft
The New SouthTran - 682 Aircraft
The Old American - 612 Aircraft
The Old US Air and West - 339 Aircraft

I don't know how to gauge the number of Regional airplanes for each, but I would say American has the least yes?

The routemaps do overlap very well. Passengers could easily fly HKG-LAX, rent a car, drive to ONT, then fly to either Visalia, Kingman, or Prescott, all on one ticket! Imagine!

You know...come to think of it....there is a business model there.......:)
