Merger between American and US. Airways on the verge?

Yea, the FA's are apparently getting a pretty good deal? Keeping retirement, sick days, leave days, to include hire pay raise than what AMR wanted to offer?? I'm going to try and get the inside on the pilot proposal.

If that's still the deal after the chips fall. Selling out AMR to USAirways is like making a deal with the devil to avoid a different devil IMHO.

No, that's not right. USAirways and USAPA are behind this all, because they care about the AMR employees.

I remember in 1985 - My aunt was an official with IFFA and all the TWA unions were so vehemently against Lorenzo buying TWA that they threw themselves into Icahn's arms. Didn't work out well - I honestly thought they'd have been better off with Lorenzo. Who knows.

Yea apparently from what I hear the pilots are hopping on board the bandwagon as well. I mean the simple fact that they wanted to take away the retirement is pretty pathetic, a lot of these guys have given way to many years to just have it taken away in a matter of mili-seconds. It's almost unfair but then again, this is the airline industry.

Apparently U.S. Airways went straight to the unions to discuss options before they even made the call to management? Who made the first move I have no idea but it seems as if US Airways is offering something worthwhile because it's making a lot of people breathe a temporary sigh of relief until everything does eventually gets finalized.

USAPA has nothing to do with this. *IF* this goes through they will be irrelevant. 10000 APA pilots plus 2000 AWA pilots plus about 1/4 of the AAA group that has no desire to see USAPA anymore means about 13000 against 3000 in a representation election.

It would have to be spelled "'Murrican Air". And of course the merged company would have to shed all of their Arbii products, as they clearly ain't 'Murrican.
 
It basically comes down to the lesser of two evils. AMR is a nightmare to work for, all they care about is their bonuses and just screwing the union and it's workers .. the APA term sheet looks good, they have taken a lot from the West guys.
