MEI in Denver

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to come down to the Denver area to do my MEI and possibly do some multi time-building. Can anyone suggest a good school?

Thanks!

I would like to see my kids again :)

Mcair up at BJC will probably be your best bet for that. They have two nice newer model Seminoles. Only problem there is that after you get your ME ratings you will have to do your time building at Great Lakes or some other airline since they don't allow the twins to fly without one of their CFIs on board. I guess you could always build time with one of their MEIs?

As for other twins in the area, I have looked at the one at Flights Inc down at APA and I think it is actually a turbo. It is definetly an older model but can get the job done. I rented from them back in 04 a few times but stopped when they seemed to ignore parts of 91.205 and tell me that I didn't really have to follow it for a local flight. From what I have heard though, they have changed management or merged with another school on the field. Midlifeflyer on here has had good experiences with them from what I have heard and he definetly knows his stuff. If he says it is good now, you can probably take that to the bank.

There is another school up at BJC that just merged with another flight school there and I know they still have a twin but I have heard some bad stories about that Seminole. It seems duct tape plays a key role in the cockpit? I am kinda curious if it is true or not. You may want to check them out.

After that, your only other choices are going to be out at Front Range which I can't comment on.

Midlifeflyer is the one who recommended Flights Inc. to me, and he knows the Chief Pilot very well. And yes, it is also my understanding that management changed and they merged with an older school called "Wings of Denver" or something like that. I believe the FBO (TacAir) might be the owner/management of Flights Inc, and the maintenance seems very good, but I have never flown anywhere else, so I can't really compare it to anything. My planes have all stayed in the air for my whopping 35 hours of flight time (ASEL PPL), and I have had a great experience. :)

What I can tell you about Flights is that it's a good school with good instructors. TAC Air doesn't own a piece of it but some of the principals (read "owners of the company") of Flights, Inc are also principals of Precision Aircraft (one of the maintenance shops at Centennial) and of Key Lime Air (FWIW). They also own most of the aircraft in the school through yet another company.

I can't speak in particular for the twins (I'm only SEL myself), but my personal experience with Flights Inc singles has been that maintenance is pretty solid.

I am no longer associated with Flights Inc, but not as a result of a bad experience.

Of course, if you want "new" there's always the Diamond TwinStar at Aspen Flying Club

Aspen seems to have pretty good options there... You can get the basics with that old crusty seminole they have and then maybe find someone to split some time with in that Twinstar and learn how that thing works. At those rates, it is priced fairly well too... Then again I am out here in SoCal where I am conditioned for paying too much for everything.
