Medical Exam Insurance Question

Since the FAA exam isn't covered under most insurance providers and most airlines don't like to pay for the required exam, has anyone tried just getting a regular physical at the same time as the FAA physical? This way they could send the claim to the insurance company like any other visit.

I just got my first class and mentioned that to the doc. He told me I should have set it up as a physical and he would have sent it through to insurance. So I guess it's possible.

Also, it's a tax write off for work related expenses...

Here's some advice that I was given a long time ago. It works and there is a valid reason if you think about it.

Let your DME do your FAA medical exam.

Let your regular doctor do your regular physical exam.

But do not let your regular doctor do your FAA medical exam.

And do not go to your DME for any sort of medical issue.

I used my flexible spending account for my 1st Class Medical. You could check into something like that.

My AME calls it a wellness check and tries to bill it to my insurance, but discloses that it is required for employment and that they reimburse me for it. The insurance never covers it, but applies the total cost to my deductible for the year, so it saves me the cost of the physical at the end of the year.
