Hello everyone.

Can anyone give any details as to the operations of this school? If anyone has personal or direct knowledge of how the training/cost is at Mazzie, any info would be appreciated.

I know someone who went there a few years ago that was, overall, pleased with his experience. He was a mid-life career changer, went from Mazzi to instruct at ERAU. Went from ERAU to Trans States and may move on to Skywest in the near future.

Have you looked at their website? I've never heard anyone complain about their marketing statemenets...unlike the big three academies.

Yes'sir I've taken a look at their website and they do seem to be a quality company.

They seem to have everything laid out fairly well and like an academy oriented training-style, yet they hold the fbo nature.

They look interesting.

Thanks for your response

There are a few people on here who have first hand knowledge. I was a check instructor there. Photopilot instructed there for a short time, and CaliforniaSurfer was a student there. Feel free to pm me (and I know neither of them would mind, either) with specific questions.

I am going to begin at Mazzei in about two weeks going through the career pilot course (216). I am going to possibly start a blog about my time there.

I encourage you to do a blog. Mazzi needs more exposure at this site.

I second that.

Just checking their prices. Their course which is basically the same as Ari Ben's is $14,000 more and only 47.5 hrs. is multi time.

The course I am doing is only $36,800 and includes housing for 6 1/2 months, all books, and exams. Since I have VA benefits I will get 60% of that cost back. Ari Ben was number two on my list but with housing, books, and exams not included and the fact that they only subsidize the fuel cost when you fuel up away from their FBO I calculated Ari as costing alot more overall.
I begin the week of 18July and I will do a blog. I wish the admin people would give Mazzei there own forum topic so that my blog would not be hidden under the subject of FBO's (hint, hint). Why does a scam PTF such as TAB airlines get their own forum and then a respectable school such as Mazzei does not?

"Why does a scam PTF such as TAB airlines get their own forum"

I think it's cause Doug thought the level of discussion for TAB years ago called for it's own forum. The level of discussion on Mazzi is next to nothing. Maybe you could change that with your blog? You really want to make a difference? Get Mazzi to pay for a banner ad at jetcareers and put a jetcareers link at their website. That would probably get them their own forum, I would think.

Got my Key Loan approved today. That was the final box to check off. I hit the road tomorrow from Tacoma, WA to Fresno. The trip should take about two weeks because of a lot of family to visit on the way down. Assuming no car problems I should be starting with Mazzei on schedule. A little background: I spent the past 10 years in the Navy serving on submarines. I got my bachelors degree and private pilot while living in Honolulu, HI two years ago. After moving to the pacific northwest I began Instrument training. The military was interfering with my training (my point of view) and I knew flying was what I wanted to do for a living. After going a few rounds with the Air Force trying to get into UPT (their pilot school) I finally threw in the hat with the military and now here I am. I am 28, have a beatiful and understanding wife, a 3yo boy, and another one on the way. No looking back now.

Be sure to do that blog once you get started. We all like to hear about the experiences.

mmmm, Fresno. Summer. Thoughts of melting blacktop it is so hot comes to mind.

I try and avoid dual cross country flights to the valley during the summer, and keep things along the coast, so the temps stay under the 90s.

Stop in this way, and get some actual time in if there is fog around. You'll get about 0 actual near FAT unless it is the winter tule fog.

I was a coner; FT to be exact. I even made chief last year and I still got out. They made 40-50% the past 5 years so it was not a big deal. BTW, to people who were never in the navy... this means nothing to you.

To update my trip. I am in Portland, OR right now and I my truck is smoking pretty bad (I am pulling a 14K 5th wheel) so I am going to have it looked at this weekend. This may delay me a couple days if it is a big repair job. Also, Key bank stated that Mazzei is being cut off the approved school list effective 1Aug so I need to get the loan papers signed, sealed, and delivered by then. No big deal, right? They also said that they are only going to approve 6 more loans for the school and then that is it. A school rep informed me that there are about 7-9 people coming to the school that have there loans still pending. This means that I am officially in a rat race to be one of those final 6 people. Why does a bank say that you are approved, send you the papers to sign, and then say "BTW, you better hurry before someone else beats you to the punch."

Congrats on making Chief. Grabo is a chief and will be getting out. I also got out the year I was up for Senior Chief the second time. Congrats also on getting out. I hope the loan works out for you and you can make it work.

It's nice ot see a Mazzie post here. Mazzie was my 2nd choice behind Ari-Ben. I really liked the owner there. He spent quite a bit of time on the phone talking to me. Definitely a no-nonsence type of guy. The program looked really good too. And.... with the housing added in the cost is the same if not cheaper than Ari. The only thing that swung me to Ari was the multitudes of Duchess time.

I think (if I remember correctly) Mazzie will also give you a chance with some students, just like Ari-Ben. That was another big thing on my list and now I'm not even gonna use it because I'm going to instruct at a place in Georgia. It's a sweet deal though. The place has a 135 operation that I can get in to and there's 2 corporate jet headquarters on the field. I'm psyched about that because when I'm not instructing they said they would introduce me to those guys so I could fly right seat in some Citations and Lears.

Good luck and keep the post going on your experience at Mazzie. I'd like to read it as well.

I am now in Eugene, Oregon visiting some family. Plan on continuing my trip this Wednesday or Thursday. I will call on the loan tomorrow. Should be all good. Still on track to arrive in Fresno July 18th. I put some injector cleaner in my truck and it is running much better now. I am very suprised to see so many seasoned navy chiefs getting out before 20. I guess I am just glad to see that I am not the only one. Guys on my boat made me feel like I was making the biggest mistake in the world for getting out. I know there is more to life that what the Navy offers and I am ready to find out. Tell next time.
