Max sim time credit towards CPL 250 hours

now it is stipulated that the time must be accomplished in an approved sim with an "authorized instructor." What is that supposed to mean? a CFII?

50 is the max . . . . Unless . . . the sim being used is approved as a part 142 sim than you may use up to 100. But, let's be honest. Who in the world operates a flight school with a part 142 approved sim who doesn't charge an arm and a leg to operate it. It takes too much to certify a "training center."

I thought the 100 hrs if part 142 applied only to the ATP certificate?

You don't have to use a CFII, you can use a CFI.

Does the CFI have to be an FAA CFI, or can sim time with a non FAA (e.g JAA or Transport Canada) instructor count?

For example, if you started an IR course with the JAA or Transport Canada syllabus, but decided to go the FAA route.

J777Fly. The regs do not specify. They just say an authorized instructor.

granlistillo: Check out 61.129 (i)(2)

AND for a training center that is approved to operate part 142, the minimum hours (Including sim time) for the commercial certificate drops to 190. Crazyness.
