Max Number of passengers

Hello,

After many years of pestering and begging my wife who is afraid of flying finally went up with me!
Now my dream of gong on a family flying vacation is that much closer. Here is my question my club has an arrow I fly with my Wife and I and kids we are well with in weight and balance for the plane. The problem is I have 3 kids witch means total of 5 with only 4 seats in the arrow. The Kids are 10 – 5 – 3. They all fit small and fit comfortably in the back seat(we sat in the plane a lot before my wife got up the nerve to fly)

I have heard that if you have a seatbelt for every one and you are in the weight limits you are ok. I am afraid I will have to pay double the money and gas for our clubs lance for a 5th passenger who weighs 32 pounds soaking wet.

Dose any one know what the regs say?
Thanks John

I read somewhere that a couple with a young child was able to install a child seat in the back of a 150, and it was legal. Not sure if they had to get a STC or not, but obviously the kid in the back wasn't very old (maybe 2?).

I can't find the reg., but I'm 99% sure that you can't have more butts in the airplane than you have seats/retraints (i.e. you can't double up two kids on one seat, even if they fit).

The 150/152 is certified for a rear seat (I'm pretty sure you don't need an STC), but you'd have to find the proper rear seat and have it installed.

How do the passengers get away with kiss on lap then? Dose any onw know what section in the FAR's this is discused?

If your youngest has not yet reached his/her second birthday, that baby can ride in an adult's lap as a lap child. (So if the child is 2, they may NOT ride on a lap!) This applies not just to airline flights, but to GA too.

This is not the safest way to fly, and I personally don't agree with this rule.......But, it is in the regs.

Edit: I'll look up the FAR number when my little one takes a nap.

Sounds like you could use a Cessna 206!

Mate - just leave the kids at home with Grandma - take your wife somewhere on her own. It will be cheaper, and you will thank me later.

FAR 91.107:

"a person may:
Be held by an adult who is occupying an approved seat or berth, provided that the person being held has not reached his or her second birthday and does not occupy or use any restraining device;"

This means those "Baby B'air" products (the harness marketed to make it 'safe' for a parent to hold their child inflight) may NOT be used for surface movement, takeoff, or landing!

Please, please, please use child restraints in aircraft!!! It's just my personal soap-box item, but a child is so much safer on any airplane if they are in a car seat. Why are car seats required for a child to ride in an auto? Because they're safer!!!
