I'm not sure if you guys have heard of the new Federal GRADUATE PLUS loan, which just came into effect July 2006...here are the details:
1) Have to be enrolled in a Grad School program of any kind
2) Fixed 8.5% interest rate forever...drops to 8.25% if you sign up for auto-debit when it goes into repayment
3) Super super easy to get...I've been denied for Sallie Mae and other loans before, but I was approved for this one. The Feds don't care near as much about your credit/length of established credit, etc..
4) Can be consolidated with other Fed ed loans such as Stafford, etc....which means you can essentially defer paying on it for a long time (i.e. don't pay until you're on with a major).
5) HERE's the BEST PART: this loan essentially acts as an alternative loan, i.e. you can use it for the full cost of education beyond that covered by other educational loans. There is no max, other than the federal aggregate loan max of like 89 or 100K or something.
Basically...this loan would allow someone to pay for an entire flight training program.
Here's the hitch, and here's my question for everyone out there: I have searched far and wide for a Master's degree program that would allow someone to flight train as part of their degree (i.e a Master's in Professional Piloting, or a Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies at some school that has a solid flight training program). Does anyone out there know of a Master's program which has flight training involved?
Ari-Ben is accredited as an undergrad instituion, but I wish to God they were accredited as a graduate institution also. Similar to an MBA, they should set up a "Master's in Flight." Then everyone w/ a bachelor's could finance their entire flight training program, with no co-signer, at a fixed 8.5% interest rate with easy deferment options.
Unless anyone else knows of a "Master's in Piloting."
