Many Unbelievably Fantastic Fares

If you are traveling from point A to point B....and you see a fare that is $100 dollars versus $500....do you pay the $500 out of a courtesy to your fellow pilots, or do you jump on the cheapest fare?

Hmm... I've got a free weekend coming in Atlantic City, and that happens to be the only place they fly nonstop from Tampa...

I flew on spirit to Costa Rica a couple years ago. The fares are cheap but they charge extra for anything and everything. I think we paid about $80 roundtrip. If you don't check a bag and don't get any food/drink it is a great deal.

Question is, how many of those $9 fares are there? And you have to buy them by noon today. Plus, it's actually at least $18 since it HAS to be a round trip. But, not all flights are operated the same, BUT you can combine the fare with another segment. Which means, you can fly roundtrip, but you might be paying $9 to get there but $150 to get back. Oh, and don't forget to pre-pay your checked bags on-line. $19 for the first, $25 for the second EACH WAY. So, if you check one bag, you're up to at least $56. If you wait to pay for the bag at the airport, add $6 since it's more expensive to pay to check it at the ticket counter. Oh, and the passenger usage fee each way makes it $70. Segment tax each way makes it $77.20. Up to $18 per round trip in airport charges (aka landing fees) and the 9/11 security fee: $100.20.

Oh, and you have to be a "$9 fair club" member, with a fee of $39.95, making that $9 fare a grand total of $140.15 if you stay domestic. If you go international, the fees and taxes are on top of that as well.

Gotta read the fine print. :)

So, between the MUFF "diving" and the probability of people saying "No $9 left, be hey! $39 isn't bad either!" I'm gonna go with Marketing WIN.

Spirit has been doing the $9 fares and $9 Fare Club or whatever it is called for quite some time. To be honest, I'm surprised they are still in business...

...and when a orthodontist is advertising $5 "out tha door!" root canals....

I actually wondered about this thread when I first saw it, thought it might be advertising spam... all ready to hit the "delete thread" function, then I looked a bit closer, and LOLed. :)

I'm not sure I'd trust a $5 "add-on" for anesthesia.

Besides, I wouldn't trust $1 Sushi not to give me "The Runs", I sure in hell wouldn't depend on $9 air fares not to be conducive to me flying on a Tupolev-154, full of MEL's, with a adolescent Chechnyan crew.

I've got a ticket on a Tupolev-154 sitting here on my desk... 1700 rubles (about $50). Everyone was praying before they got on the plane. I paid the extra cash to the the 25 hour train ride for the return trip...

Dont worry, i hear the chechyans just upgraded to microsoft flight sim 3.0. Those EGA graphics are incredible! They might be adding rudder pedals to the sims pretty soon, also.
