From the random polling af all profesional pilots related to me and that have talked to some people:
***You will most likely loose the ability to retire at 60, because of no bridge medical plan.
***Most guys will retire at 62 anyway.
***Now with the age at 60, for every age retirement there are 2 people that loose their 1st class medical. (some stay flying as FOs with a second class)
***With the age at 65 that ratio will be closer to 1:4
I have no idea where you guys got 7 years of stagnation.:insane: 65-60=5
If ALL the major pilots stayed until 65 there would be 5 years of stagnation. Because a lot will retire at 62 and even more will lose their medicals, the stagnation will probably be closer to two years.

Hmmmm......maybe not all of us are ready to have our apps. in at the majors tomorrow. As a result, 5 years of age differences....could become 7 additional years at current positions.
Also, I suspect everyone here realizes that 65-60=5....but thanks clearing it up for those that don't.

Seriously, just frustrated.
Despite all the gripes I posted above, I truly love 90% of my job! I love....LOOOOVE the airplane! I love....LOOOOOVE the view from my "office". I dig getting to go to different cities - especially when I have time to explore!
The company is not all crap either. Mainly the schedulers with a smidgen of upper management thrown in.
My frustrations stem mainly from the prospect of sitting reserve for yet another year and flying very little.
For example: From April to December 31st, I flew a whopping 300 hours. Not exactly what I had envisioned my life as an airline pilot being = sitting at the airport with my phone on waiting to be called or sitting at home doiong the same thing (which is infinitely better than sitting at the airport I might add).
A very respected DE in Addison told me if you like working for thugs go work for Eagle or AA

Crap there goes my stellar plan to use the baby boom generation aging to make my career MOVE.
Think about this if suddenly the pool of pilots doesn't shrink for another 5 years what does that do to our wages? Thats right it keeps them down because pilots aren't scarce enough to force an increase in wages.

No one bothers me here. I get alot of enjoyment reading this crap, makes me laugh.
Couldn't agree more.
No one should be forced to retire a job that you are healthy enough and qualified to do. Any of you who are stating that those guys "should have saved more, etc" are morons. If you want to continue to work then so be it. Also, don't forget that many of these guys have been furloughed several times, been out on strike (paving the way for future generations) and have had guaranteed retirement pensions yanked out from under them. Here is a novel idea for you 500 hour wonders... why don't you take the next few years you'll spend "stuck" at your job and get a college degree.

Most major airlines REQUIRE a four-year degree BEFORE employment.
Not that it's any of your cotton-pickin' business, but the majority of we airline pilots on this site HAVE a four year degree...and then some. Just to list a few for you, below are colleges from which a number of our folks graduated:
Embry Riddle
Auburn University
Rutgers University
University of Florida
University of Michigan
Western Michigan University
University of Miami (FL)
Carson-Newman College
As far as the retirement/pension thing.......who said "those guys should have saved more???"

For some people though it seems to cause concern. Laugh all you want, just don't call 'em monkeys, its not nice:laff:

Here's one of them. Not saying that many of us don't have college degrees, but that's the way it should be. It used to be where you couldn't get any flying job without one. Just tired of these guys who go through flight school, get hired with hardly any hours and think they know it all and can talk smack about a senior pilot who most likely went to college, the military and has been busting his has flying for the last 40 years.

For your information........as stated above, MANY OF US DO HAVE COLLEGE EDUCATIONS.
For example, I've got both a four-year degree and a masters degree....both from Big Ten Universities. I've served in the Marine Corps as well. Additionally, I've worked many different jobs, for many different employers. I've payed my dues.....as have many others.
However, that's a nice try for the suggestion box......NEXT!
