Man, flying is boring...

Not much irks me more than "you mind if I take this one?" Only to watch them turn the autopilot on at 600ft and off at mins.

I usually don't care if I miss out on a landing because of a cat 2 or just because the other guy wants that particular airport. But make it with it!

1500 ft?!?!?! Slacker. Should have put it on at 100'.

And, yes, that kind of flying you are doing is something that I would really like to get out of my system one day.

I just though about it, a 10 hour flight at say $160/hr, wide body FO somewhere, plus perdiem, and god knows what other rigs. Let's just call it 24 hours of credit for sake of argument. So the trip there and back, 4 grand in 3 days to do absolutely nothing. Ya, yep, I'd do it.

Takeoff, autopilot at 1500', autoland 10 hours later. You guys sure you really wanna go fly big jets to far away places? :)

The other week while laying comfortably flat while watching a movie in the business class of an A330, I thought to myself, "this is pretty great". Then one of the captains sat down in the pod next to me, reclined his chair, and watched movies for a few hours before taking a nap.

Seems like a pretty sweet gig to me.

Well, hell. After hearing my former company is getting seaplanes, I'm getting nostalgic. I'd gladly go back to a 402 (or a seaplane!) if I could make the same money. In a lot of respects, I actually miss flying airplanes, and I strongly urge those who are on the "big jet/far places" path to take the time to enjoy the act of flying an airplane around (I have almost 2,000 hours in the 767/757, but only ~130 total landings).

Push papers. Make coffee. Do a walkaround. Land sometimes. Once the sheen of a big jet goes away (and it does, quicker than you think), it'll actually make you miss what you got into this industry for.

And @Soku39, $160/hr as a 767 FO?! Sheesh, we need a better contract over here. :)

It sure would! You've been at Atlas a few years now, so you are making about $70K a year on the 767?
