Making extra income while flying

I need some advice. I am planning on applying for airlines soon but I have a dilemma, the amount of money I Will earn for the first 3 years is less than the amount of bills I have to pay (house car etc). Any suggestions on how to earn extra income during that time to help make ends meet? Thanks

Sell your car and buy something cheaper. Dump that auto loan & get a 90s-model Honda. As far as your mortgage/rent, you're gonna have to cut coupons/pinch pennies for a while and tighten your budget. It can be done!

I've heard that putting on some old, ripped up, dirty clothes and begging on a street corner can be surprisingly profitable. I'll let you decide if it's ethical...

Well as funny as this may sound ... to make extra money ... I flew .... for the National Guard, actually I started out as a helicopter mechanic, then got the chance to go to flight school. My reasons for joining the Guard were varied, but the money was and still is very nice. Join the Guard! This has been a public service announcement.

I also wondered the same thing. I hate sitting around doing nothing. I'm not sure how much I'll fly on reserve, so I'm fairly cautious to jump into something right now, but I've wondered about:

- real estate (agent, broker, etc.)? I'm not really sure to begin with this stuff, or even what they all do
- temp jobs (i.e. on-call type stuff, such as general laborers)
- Non-flying aviation jobs (sim instructor, ground instructor, company prohibits all commercial flying)

I have an at home business but I can't really count on much per month - some months I bring in $1,500 or so and some $0. So I'm looking for something a little more stable.

Pick up extra flying. It is likely to pay you more than any outside or secondary job, even at probationary wages. You'd be surprised how an extra round trip each week can supplement the income. Also you won't get any heat from your employer. If anything, it will get your employer thinking of you as a "can do" kind of guy.

I think they've (company) limited the amount of open time flying, because it pays 1.5 your normal pay. My company has a lot of reserves and as such, just uses them.

I would definately do that if it were an option, though.

Along the lines of what wheelsup is saying, think non-traditionally. Do you have an skills you can foist on the public for spare cash? A great place to look for temporary work (as in same-day) is Craig's List. I offered a transcription service on there and have made some easy cash with the site's "gigs" section. Emphasis on "non-traditional".

I sell beef jerky on line!
Pays for gas and food even if I don't build the business any more. While I am patiently waiting for the second year pay!

I've flown with everything from folks that sell hay up to and including judges. There's even another guy ( NOT ME ) who I flew with that's involved in something somewhat 'shocking' but that's reserved for casual discussion at "Nine Fine Irishmen" this friday!

Someone remind me of the story this weekend.

Yes, us male gigilos have to keep that kind of work out of the public spotlight. Hard work, but pays the bills.
