Make your own CFI binder or buy a premade one?

Have my own binder with docs from my company as well as notes and lesson plans...mainly for orals.

Ended up just using backseat pilot lesson plans...very well detailed and literally the same outline as the PTS. It was my study aid for the oral.

Examiner I had could care less what the lesson plans were...actually said I had too many notes...but that's better than not enough!

I made my own and never used it once, but the process of making it was very good for learning all the content and revisiting some stuff I forgot.

Doesn't need to be a physical binder btw. A folder on your laptop is going to work way better.

When I did mine I tweaked alot of stuff that Hacker15e gave me. I also used lesson plans from other places that I modified.

That being said I believe that my binder is never going to be set in stone and will be modified as time goes on.

I made one I never once used. IMO, a complete waste of time. "You'll learn it better" doesn't really sit all that well with me either. You may (learn it better), but you are going to be referencing material all through someone's training already. When I was a student, I preferred to know where to find it (as a student) rather than where or who I heard it from.

It looks like I'll head down the path of rolling my own. This is more for the CFI checkride, not necessarily what I plan on teaching out of. I'm going to be right in the middle of the transition from the PTS to ACS, so the premade CFI binders are probably going to require a fair amount of re-working on my part anyway.

I made my own in college when I got my initial CFI. Got out of the game for a few years...binder was lost in a few moves....bought back seat pilot when I reinstated. It helped a lot...and still does.
