Maglites

If anyone else is carrying the big D-cell "terrorist beatin'" mag light, there's an LED "retrofit" available that simply rocks.

It's like xenon headlights, right there in your flight kit!

It's pricey (like $18) but well worth it.

YMMV.

But if you nonrev out of uniform, make sure you don't pack any liquids next to your terrorist beater of a flashlight.

Is that where you've been, man? :) TSA declare "fatwa" on you?

I used to have a big maglite, but the first time I hit somone with it, it fell apart. I wasn't mad, because it still left them unconcious, but I switched to another brand.

Just want to warn you all that maglites can't always be relied upon for beating terrorists. :D

The only time I ever had to hit somebody with a flashlight, all I had was a mini mag. Thing worked like a charm though and didn't even dent. Dropped the guy with one hit too. Funny thing was a cop was standing right behind me and complemented me on my technique.

story?

In our CFM it states one D cell flashlight or equivilant. So I use an aviator flashlight I bought awhile back that takes "AA" and is ten times brighter then the D cell flashlights and half the size. I also carry extra batteries. I consider it equivilant or better.

Yeup. But what if you've got to beat someone down? :) I guess you can at least poke 'em in the eye with your AA flashlight.

(I'm serious!)

But the crash axe in my swinging arm, and the old skool maglite in my left, I can unleash berserker frenzy. I think it's L1+R2+UP+DPAD+R3.

Al Quada has the cheat codes, might as well give yourself a fighting chance.

I have a 3 D cell Mag that I swear by with the LED conversion. It is night between the pre-mod and post mod. Regular is like a street lamp, not that bright but gives light. Post mod= High powered flood light that you can't miss a thing with.

Yeah, but if you use U, U, D, D, L, R, L, R, B, A, START BEFORE the flight you'll have more chances to do it. :D

Crash axe.

Ha Ha
Never know when a terrorist will jump out of a box only to find out he is in back of a navaho or 99.

I would throw him in the back lock the door and go fly owens valley on a very windy day with a box of urine samples!

I swithced to a streamlight 12 LED or 6 LED or regular bulb. It was $50 bucks retail.

And I also carry a mini mag LED and a LED headlamp

I love my Surefire. Small, light and bright enough to light up the top of the vertical stab, easily! I actually have two of them, and always carry them both so I have a backup. We are only required to carry a flashlight and the FOM now (with the latter going away soon as well), but I wouldn't want to get stuck without a working flashlight. OTOH, I have yet to have a flashlight I carried in my flight kid fail me. On that same topic, I'm going to transition to a much smaller briefcase also, at some point here.

The story with the mini mag...

I used to work as a supervisor for event staff at concerts and other such things when I was in college. One show (I think Kenny Chesney) we had a very drunk patron who was hasseling one of my ushers. The poor girl was getting pushed back by him so I stepped between the two of them and told him to take a step back and then we would talk. His response was to take a swing at me. Mini Mag meet point of drunk guys chin. Down goes drunk guy.

The crash axe...

The way it is secured (at least in the CRJ) would take WAY to long to dig out and then there really is no good swinging room. If you are going to embed 6 inch axe into a terrorist you really need to get a good wind up.

Flashlights...

We actually don't have to carry one. I have a headlamp and a mini mag in my flight case (and a glow stick!) but the airplanes all have 4 or 5 walmart heavy duty 2 D specials.
