Made the move to DC

Finally made it from Denver to DC and am set up and ready to start to find a place to fly and do some CFI job hunting.

First, if any of you guys plan on moving anytime soon, avoid using Allied at all costs. They are plain out horrible! Took them nearly two weeks after quoting us 3-5 days. Being in an apartment that long with no furniture or bed is worse than prison.

Comcast is also on my list. Those people can't keep an appointment if their life depended on it. Took them three visits to the apartment to make it up here and another 3 visits before they actually got us hooked up... Then they gave us the wrong stuff and tried to charge us for all kinds of extra services.

Anyway, so far the city seems pretty neat, DCA is a pretty cool airport and has a nice park to watch planes land. Also found that sports bar here in Crystal City so I could watch my Broncos lay an egg in Miami and then bump the chargers. Wooohooo, I think?

I am really starting to hate moving... Just seems like nothing is in your control. Bad thing for a pilot I suppose.

Ah yes, you will have lots of chances to shoot pictures at Gravelly Point. And when they're doing the river visual, it is super cool. Actually when the winds blow from the north, that's cool, cause you get them on takeoff.

Hey congrads on the move...don't get shot!!!

Yeah, it's pretty neat as they do some funky turns right there on final over the river. I want to get a good shot with the monument in the background but not sure if I can get it to line up. Maybe I can talk doug into overshooting it one day and doing the old chop and drop.

I really wish that the public were allowed to fly into there, that looks like it would be a fun one!

Anyway, Tony let me know when you go flying again and need someone to tag along... I need to get back in the air before I forget it all.

Don't they have the highest murder rate here or something? I think I read that somewhere before. Dave Chapelle used to make jokes about when he was a pizza delivery man here in DC he would bust people's doors down with a gun in one hand and the pizza in the other during the delivery. Ha!

Welcome to the area ... how much did you spend on gas making the move ... and how long do you have to repay the loan you took out for it

Welcome to the area ... that park is cool, although I've only caught them taking off in my direction, have yet to watch them land overhead.

Wife and I are actually going to be moving closer to the area than we are now.

Ha, there is no way we would have paid for any of that. Fiance's company paid for everything. I don't know what the final price was but it was outrageous!

I am worried about how to get all of our stuff back in a few years when we make the move back to Colorado though. I have a feeling we will be donating alot of stuff at that time and starting over new unless we can get another company to move us.

For some reason I doubt airlines will pay for a new hire's move.

Where in the area are you moving to?

Hense my point...D.C. either was or still is the murder capital of the world.
D.C. has always been explained to like this:

"D.C. is a great place to get shot, stabbed, mugged, killed or buy drugs. Or all of the above!!!"

Come on, guys, you're making DC sound like it's downtown Baghdad!

It's not that bad. Really. Just like any big city, there are places you simply do not go to unless you are armed like a Marine unit rolling into Fallujah.

But for the most part, it is okay.

Tim -- I'll shoot you a PM when I get back in the air -- are you an II?

Edited to add: duh, look at his sig, Tony!

Right up the road (ie 10-15min max) from Manassas Regional KHEF.

Edited to add: Let's go 'Canes

Tim- I don't think Colorado can handle the heat down here, I think Miami wins by 3 or 4 TD's.

Not sure if it was the heat or what but our offensive coordinator is a freaking IDIOT!!!

I guess some blame falls on the head coach for keeping our QB in after he got a concussion and then dislocated his toe. Did you see that rollout? He fell over with no one anywhere around him. Hard to win when you QB can't stand up.

My Broncos will be down in Florida this sunday playing the Jags... Hopefully the temps will be below 80 and low humidity?

I'm not sure how long a drive it is, but there's a school out of Gaithersburg that was hiring not too long ago, I'd also drop a resume off at Capitol Air at Tipton.
