Luggage Preference

Hi Everyone...
I am in the market for a new overnight bag and wondering what your preference is. I have gone through 3 bags in less than a year as they just aren't holding up to daily airline abuse I mean use. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I am considering one of the Purdy Neat steel framed bags and I am wondering if they are worth the money....

Thanks

Hmmm. I used to sell luggage /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif after doing that for a while Atlantic came to be my favorite. Samsonite had many returns and many unhappy customers and the Atlantic is cheaper and they were very good with their 10 year warranty even on things like broken zippers. I can't comment on the other brands though, we didn't carry them.

I'd go with the duffle bag anyday. Easy to carry, fits in just about any configuration, and its cheap /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL. And, when empty, folds up into a little square about 8 inches square and 1 inch thick, for easy stowage!

Go check out the ones at Costco with the lifetime warranty, they're less than $100 and seem very well made--expandable, bomb-proof zippers, ballistic nylon, locking handle. Did I mention a lifetime warranty? You bust it up, just take it back and get a new one.

I had one of those huge Samsonite bags blow a zipper on me once. I was packing at 2:30am for a 6am flight to Sydney. Luckily the other zipper still worked. I also got to stow my own bags which helped ease my nerves, although I was a little nervous lugging it up the stairs to the airplane. It even made it back it one piece.

As a ramper, I gotta so NO SAMSONITE. You're paying for the name. I've seen more of those things rip under the weight of what's packed in them than any other bag. That and the huge, plastic ones have clasps that come open if you blow on them. And they're tough to stack in the bin. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a TravelPro, and have been very pleased with it (besides the fact our ramp has nearly destroyed it!). Next time I'll probably go with the PNS metal frame bag though. If you got the cash, go with the PNS now. Otherwise, I'd say TravelPro Crew 5.

And it had better be exactly 8 inches...Sir.

Go "Purdy Neat" -- but the steel frame. They last forever.

I went thru an 'el cheapo' about every four months, my samsonite's wheels went 'kerplunkt' after about six months (replaced them with roller blade wheels) but my PNT is built like a tank. And not one of those cheesy Bradley Fighting Vehicle-style tanks, but like one of those old school Russian things.

I've had my hardside TravelPro forever. It is indestructible. It actually fell out of a moving vehicle (don't ask) and bounced a couple of times, but other than a gouge in the case, it was fine!

I have had a TravelPro for about 7 years of continuous use. It has held up better than Purdy Neat and was a heck of a lot cheaper.

The handle broke a couple of times and was fixed for free by my loggage service as part of TravelPros warranty. All other components have been fine. Put skate wheels on myself and if rolls real nice. New wheels may be like that already.

I have a LuggageWorks (PNS) bag. After it was blown a..c..r..o..s..s the ramp by dc-9 jetblast, it was no worse. I am happy with my purchase.

TheWife, what's up with the avatar? I read your profile and see that you already have one child, Caleb. Does this avatar suggest another on the way? If so, Congrats! Just curious.
