There are some survey companies that will hire with a fresh commercial, but they typically start hiring in August and you need to be prepared to spend 7 months on the road. That said it's a great opportunity when you're low-time and looking to open up a lot of opportunities at season end. That said you can keep an eye on dropzone.com and maybe find a jump pilot gig nearby flying a 182 (and maybe even a 206). I'd start calling any drop zones nearby and see if they're looking for pilots for this upcoming season as it might be a great opportunity to double your time.

I'd strongly advise you to consider chasing the work if you're not tied up with a girlfriend, wife or kids. There are operations in Alaska hiring with fresh commercials and the summer season is fast approaching. Wages are going up and minimums are coming down so if you can bite the bullet and suffer a little discomfort you'll be much better off in the long run.

What the poster above said... It's hard to find that first flying job. Really hard. Being willing to travel or move is key a lot of times. Survey work would be good because you can stay where you are living now, but you will be gone for a long time. Tough if you have a family or other commitments. I know it is often a financial hit to budding pilots, but consider getting your CFI. It will help you build flight time and earn some money doing it. It's a lot of study and preparation, but you can do a lot of it on your own and go practice from the right seat on the weekends if you have the extra funds. Finally, save up a little and get together with an experienced CFI to fly and do some studying before your check ride. A lot of pilots are averse to getting their CFI certificates but they really do help out a lot in your career and are rewarding in more ways than one.

I know of an opportunity. It has a lot of potential to put you in citations, gulfstreams, and hawkers, but you must start out instructing there first. It is also located in Wichita, KS if you are willing to relocate.
