Low time pilot around NC?

Fresh out of university with CPL MEL/ Instrument. Non-CFI (and I know I'm about to get a bunch of "get your CFI" messages") I am low time at 319TT and I wonder if anywhere near Charlotte or elsewhere near NC needs a pilot to do dirty work. I can move around as needed, I just need to make that TT bigger. Thanks for anyone who can help, it's much appreciated.

PS - also Hello ! I like these forums!

Try banner towing. The season is fast approaching and I believe there are opportunities near the beach. That's how I built my time (I'm not a CFI yet either).

Purdue pays pretty well for their CFIs, no?

South Florida is Dade, Broward and palm Beach County

(and Monroe, with the keys and all)

I'd stay away from The Little FAA or you might have the big one unkindly breathing down your back. There are several tow companies in South Florida, NJ and NY. They say they have minimums but if you have a tailwheel endorsement, you can probably get on with them. Oh...also stay away from Barnstormers in Myrtle Beach: the owner of that operation is an evil retard.

wut?

Oh yeah. A very bad company to work for. His advertisement of tons of hours and good pay is the first lie. Sure, for a low time pilot you can rack up a few hundred hours over the summer but at the cost of your soul. The owner doesn't know a thing about airplanes except that he owns them. After you preflight and are about to get the plane started, he will come out and push and pull on all sorts of things. Ive always been tempted to get out to cost him money and preflight all over again just to make sure he didnt break anything. I worked there a few years ago and had to get a second job delivering pizza. The sad thing is I made more money delivering pizza than I did flying an airplane. Low pay, low QOL. No housing provided. Good luck on getting paid on pay day...it happens whenever it happens. There is only one mechanic for all of the airplanes. A great guy but he is swamped with work. The owners brother used to be the mechanic years ago. Functional alcoholic is the best term for him. The only way he was able to function was if he was trashed on vodka...needless to say, he doesnt have his A&P anymore. But because of him, the planes have been hacked together, raped and shoddy repair work with rebuilt or cut-rate pieces. The current mechanic is having to go through and repair a ton of the bad stuff that was done to them. He does a great job but it is hard for him to keep up with all of the planes. He is underpaid (like everyone else there), overworked and overstressed. New parts are not in the vocabulary of the owner. He buys used and rebuilt parts so that he can save a few dollars here and a few dollars there...and then complains whenever a plane is broken. Granted, it was my first flying job and I flew with a lot of great guys who are still my friends. But the experience and the everyday death wish is nothing that I would want to repeat again. Heck, it isnt even a job that I would recommend to an enemy. Oh...if you ever do work there, make sure you get your last paycheck before you leave. The owner is notorious for telling people that he'll "mail them out next week" but never get around to it. Overall, I'm surprised he hasnt been shut down yet by the FAA. Stay away. There are many many many banner companies to work for that will pay you better (and possibly provide free housing), where you will have free time to enjoy life, where the planes are not threatening to fall out of the sky and where you will not be yelled at by a boss because he doesn't know what he is doing. Any more questions about the place, feel free to ask.

I heard Barnstormers in MYB had ANOTHER plane go down in the water this week.

For anyone considering banner towing, DO NOT pay for your training, and you should at the MINIMUM make $15-$20/hr.

Yep. One went through the airport fence and another sank into the Atlantic. I've heard they think it was faulty mags from the factory. Stay away from barnstormers...the owner will suck you dry for all your money and then get you killed.
