Low Pressure

Lowest I've seen is 28.03 last winter. Yesterday flying around was 28.98 in Anchorage. Just that time of year. Presently, there's a 971 low centered just south of Seldovia up here - the Seldovia setting is 28.88 today, which jives with this chart pretty well given it's location.

Incidentally, the lowest recorded altimeter setting is 25.69 during Typhoon Tip.

A few years ago a large low pressure system made a pass through the midwest during the Fall. Imaging showed what looked like a giant inland hurricane. MSP reported crazy winds and the pressure was down to around 28.60. A number of 9E aircraft were written up for flap overspeed due to the windshear. I had never seen pressure so low before. All of the controllers made sure you read back the altimeter.
