Lost This One Too

What? You wouldn't know if you lost a pregnancy? I think a woman would know if she lost a pregnancy especially since the egg is in the uterus. I'm not a woman and I have no near plans on having a child but it just seems odd that 70% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and a woman has no idea.

I'm not saying with all of them, but if it's VERY early (called a chemical pregnancy) and you don't test RIGHT when the test would be positive you could start to bleed during your normal monthly time and just think it's that. Much later and I guarantee you will know. There is NO WAY I could mistake my miscarriage for the normal monthly visitor. The earlier the pregnancy the greater the chances of miscarriage; most happen within a few weeks of pregnancy.

If I was you, I would have stopped right there, unless you got OB,GYN after your name. However, what do know, I only got 4 kids from two high risk pregnancies, one being a set of triplets and a wife who miscarried 5-6 times. Spent close to a million dollars, (thanks UHC!) on NICUs, high risk pregnancy OBs, and all tha ancillary stuff. One thing I learned. When the women are talking "women stuff," if you aren't XX, best to just keep your mouth shut instead of opening it and removing all doubt.

YMMV

Over a million?

Come on brotha, I can find you a baby for about 30% of that! Could probably throw in an au pair as well for not much more. :)

But the process wouldn't have been as fun!

2 months in NICU X 3.
1 transported to Chapel Hill NICU for a week and back (CH is a higher level NICU).
The cost of the actual delivery.
Each child needed shots for RSV, 3 shots per child, each shot costs 3-4 thousand.
Just these four cost close to $600,000.

Add in the weekly OB and high risk OB visits with ultra sounds every visit, it came close. My wife kept all the EOBs related for properity.

Because this all happened at the end of the year and we had met all out of pocket expenses, I just had to pay the $100 copay for the hospital.

B.'s 14-day stay in the NICU was over $50k. That was JUST the NICU costs... not the multiple doctors' costs, not the delivery costs (c-section).

It adds up FAST.

We're not considering that yet. We both want a biological child and adoption is beyond our budget right now. The doctor still thinks I can conceive and carry a child at least to a point where they could be safely born. If thyroid is the issue medication should take care of it. Both losses could have just been flukes too. The first was ruled an accident, but can't be 100% determined. The second the doctor said was likely a chromosomal abnormality (and 70% of pregnancies end in some type of miscarriage, most early on).
Where did you get the figure that 70% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage? That is not true. Chemical pregnancies may account for 50% to 70% of miscarriages that do occur. For women in their childbearing years, the chances of having a miscarriage can range from 10-25%, and in most healthy women the average is about a 15-20% chance.

I knew that statement had to be incorrect and way off base, so I checked online to make sure and to get the actual stats. :)

If you count chemical pregnancies they say it's 70%. For pregnancies farther along it's lower.

Very sorry to hear this Amanda, hopefully they can control further pregnancies with the medication as you mentioned. All the best.

Went to the Endo today and found out thyroid is fine. OB isn't used to reading results. He's doing more testing for it, but doesn't think anything will be wrong. He is looking into something else though that is probably easier and safer to control.
