Loss of Medical Insurance?

ZapBrannigan

If it ain’t a Boeing, I’m not going. No choice.
Wondering if any of your departments he loss of medical insurance? I'm not getting any younger and the number of pilots I know who have been grounded, temporarily or permanently, due to cardiac events, vision, blood pressure... you name it, has grown significantly over the last few years.

Since long term disability really doesn't cover pilots since we may not meet the definition of "disabled" to do any job... just to fly airplanes, I am shopping around for some coverage that would provide an income for 2 to 5 years while I find another profession. I have looked at Harvey Watt but their 24 month coverage seems rather short. Anybody have any other suggestions? Thanks!

You can get long term disability insurance that covers what you currently do (own occ) for say 2 years, then you have to be more widely disabled for it to continue. That would cover loss of medical (or should), and it's all I've been able to find. I currently have it through my employer because it's about $100/yr through my employer and about $900/yr in the open market.

It is not great but my company pays $3850 a month if you can no longer work in your current position due to a health problem. This is the first company that I have worked for that covered pilots.
