LOR's, cover letters, us airways

I'm new to this applying at majors, so at the risk of some "OMG who is this guy" here goes: Just curious for those of you that applied to us airways, did you attach LOR's or cover letters? Would/did you take them to the interview? How many Lor's do people usually have? I read in the resume section that some people do not like cover letter's, so just trying to figure out all this stuff.
On a side note, there's not too much lately on here about us airways calls - anyone have any good/bad news? It still won't let me update my resume.

Here's what I've noticed. Airways has a company filtering their applications for them and the software doesn't ask for cover letters or LORs. I'm not sure if this means you're gonna have to either wait for an interview or get someone to walk your stuff directly to management.

I have applied 3 times. The first time they emailed me, it said that they never got to look at my résumé and to apply again. The second time the email said they decided to interview candidates that more match their needs. So I applied for the next window.

OH and I'm an ATP, 3800 TT, 120 hours of 121 PIC, currently an FO. An Airways Captain I talked to said I was within a year of their mins, depending on how much I fly.

I didn't put any LOR on my app. I did bring one to my interview and got the job. They are suppose to hire 40/month indefinitely. Good Luck!

I attached the one LOR I had to my PDF resume. There are websites that will merge PDFs for you. I also brought a copy to my interview, but didn't need it. The had the copy from my online app. I got the job and start on Monday.

I only attached a resume. I did however bring my cover letter, and three letters of recommendation to the interview.

It is very important that when you fill out the application on the us airways website that you include the letters in that app. The people who review your app will decided on if you get an interview based on what is provided in that app. The people who review the app are higher ups in the flight ops department and seeing a recommendation will catch their eyes.

The thing is that getting to that point is the trick because a computer is the one who sends your app to those people. There are all kinds of theory's on what algorithm is used by the computer to make the selection, I'm sure everyone has heard the rumors of the "major training event" in the last five years and ect. The trick is to apply every time a new window opens up so that the computer looks at your app that much more. Also DON'T forget to fill out the generic employee application (the one that everyone in the company from ramper to crew scheduler has to fill out) because if it's not done by a certain date the computer will toss your app and you'll be stuck for that application window.

So what's the general consensus about how the merger could affect the new hires? Is it a imminent furlough situation or do you guys feel fairly safe ?

Jw what were the times etc of those hired? Also age out of curiosity?

Times were very similar across the board in my class (currently on-going). Around 5-6000 hours or so. The youngest in our class is 27 (FO to FO) and the oldest is 46 (if you don't count the returnees. If you do then there's a 64 year old guy there). We have a couple of military guys who have lower time.

Big things appear to be happening here. Absent a merger, they want to hire 200+ this year. It's been a wonderful experience thus far and I'm excited as hell to be here!

CommutAir has had a number of guys hired there. I only think two of them had letters of rec. All of them have had 5000+ hours of TT and at least 3 years as a captain in the Dash.
