Thanks guys! It feels pretty darn good. And the airpark isn't going to happen for us. Though we could have made it work, we would have been seriously tied down and we have too many other things we want to pursue right now. Maybe in ten years . . .

Hey, to all you other guys/gals out there who are newly minted CFI's, have you found jobs? Are you logging time?

As JD said, I'm hoping that I find out I'm employed tomorrow. Our school usually doesn't hire instructors until they have their CFII and MEI, but we're a bit short right now and I was told to get an application turned in about a week ago. Things are looking good, I think . . .

And, Ophir, the plan is to get some experience and figure out what I want to do with my status as a pilot. I still don't know whether I'm airline bound, looking for corporate, dreaming of air taxi, destined for bush in the wilds of Alaska, born to be an instructor, or cosmically connected to something I haven't even thought of yet. I'll tell you what: I'd sure love to spend some time in an Edge with the OK3 team!

I've been instructing for 3 weeks now and have logged 12.3 hours dual, mostly intro flights and BFR/safety pilot type work. I did get 6.8 hours of flight time doing aerial photography though. I managed to scrap most of those flights together simply by spending almost all my spare time in the flight school office. I'm usually the only one there, so I get first option on all the walk ins. I've got a few students lined up for next week who I hope will become regulars.

Hope to have the CFII/MEI by mid may.
 
PhotoPilot - that sounds great; I hope things go really well for you.

Man, I'm bummed... been a CFI for over two months now; been spending virtually every weekend (sans this one) and spare weekday at the school in the last month and a half, passed out fliers, have a website, made business cards, etc... and gotten pretty much zip.

Hell even my 2 intros this weekend cancelled on me - and one of them was free!

It sucks when you're a broke CFI and you have to pay to fly because you haven't touched an airplane in more than 2 weeks

Luckily, if I can get on at my 141 school, there should be plenty to keep me busy. Most of our guys have too many students and are putting in a crazy number of hours between flights and ground. We had a pretty good ratio a month or so ago, but we're losing higher time CFIs to airlines and other, better paying flight gigs pretty quickly right now. With my CFI exam scheduling, the exodus came at the perfect time for me! Hope the rest of you get lucky enough to have something fall your way as well . . . What Doug and other folks here have said is certainly true. In this industry, success is part luck, part being in the right place at the right time, part networking, and part ability. It's darn tough to get all of those things lined up at once.
 
Sorry to hear business has been tough, SkyGuyEd. Speaking of your website, did you develop that yourself? If so, nicely done, man.

Well, I've been at my school for a week since I've been hired (9 days actually) since my CFI was re-instated, and have had one photo flight for 1.3 and one dual for an hour...

Had weather cancel an airplane check out this morning...

BUT, I have a brand new student to start with me on wednesday, and he seems to be pretty serious about flying so I hope he sticks around. He wants 2 flights at least per week.

AND, I've been given a student (the one I have the one hour of dual with) who has 24 hours and not soloed yet.

The owner figures a fresh, semi expirienced, face will help him solo by this weekend. His airwork is good, but he can't quite get that last roundout and flare to work for him. We seemed to have found the problem, not looking DOWN the runway, on that one flight, so we'll see...

The beginning hours are slow for any CFI job, but eventually you'll get a student base, and if your school has alot of photo/BFR/Checkout business, the hours will pick up.
