Looking for some advice on my situation

Howdy, Just wondering anyone has been in a similar situation as far as education etc...

I've applied OTS to 3 Announcements. Taken the atsat scored an 82... Starting to realize that the OTS hiring is slowing up, and even though I am eligible to retake the test, it may not get me that far.

I am in my Junior year of a bachelors degree at a local university. Has anyone transferred into a CTI program w/ an associates degree... or would I be better off to finish with a bachelors and then do the CTI stuff? I know Vaughn offers a one year fast track program, however I have heard less than great things about them.

I've got aviatoin experience which I think some of these programs will give me credit for also. (Private, Inst certs.)

Share any ideas of advice you guys have, just trying to figure things out.

I know nothing about ATC, so my advice is simply this.

There's a reason you're not being selected. I don't know what that is, but it seems foolish to me to put all your eggs in one basket when it's not worked out so far. Finish your degree, then take stock of your situation vis-a-vis CTI and ATC.

There are two reasons that you're not getting hired. Well, two and a half.

1. You're applying OTS. Selection rates for OTS are poor, and expecting to embark on a career in ATC through the OTS path is, as we're becoming fond of saying, like playing lotto to get rich. Serious applicants need to go CTI or VRA.

2. Your test score isn't in the Well Qualified range. Selections for OTS - Qualified are non-existant as of PUBNAT5, possibly earlier.

2.5. The whole hiring process is on hold anyway since budget money has dried up, presumably until the next fiscal year begins in October. But this doesn't matter much, since it's the first two reasons that are keeping you out.

Plenty of people have pursued a CTI degree after graduating with two or four year degrees, and it makes the process go faster. Unless you're willing to control in the military for 4-6 years, it's also the only way you're going to get in. You'd also do well to retake the AT-SAT while you're in CTI; you'll have the opportunity to do that. Avail yourself of some of the study resources available online, when the time comes. The ones here and on StuckMic are free.

If it were me, I would finish my bachelors. I think it would be a waste to get that far and quit. Especially if you decide to go CTI and if for some reason it doesn't work out you have something to fall back on. Unless you totally hate what your doing and want to transfer right away to a CTI school you could do that too.
I have a bachelors from an aviation university and I decided to go back to CTI school. I choose CCBC (Community College of Beaver County) for a few reasons, location, reputation and price. It is also just a two-year program.
I had all of my ratings and since your required to get your license at CCBC it all transferred in. Having your private and inst. will cut your cost and time there substantially. Depending on what your in school for now, you may have to take a weather class. You can actually test out of things. It really all depends on what you have taken. Bottom line, All I had to take was a logic class, ATC III, and two semesters worth of ATC classes. It comes to 27 credit hours over 3 semesters. So in total, it will take me a year. Should be about the same for you.
