Looking for job in Caribbean..

I don't really care what I'm flying, I just want to live and work down there. I have spent lots of time beachin around the leewards and island life suits me because I'm old and have flown enough ILS's to minimums in the NE to last a life time.

I tried Cape Air ( My preferred choice) already as well as Seaborne but they never even sent me a email confirmation for my resume and app..Winair is not hiring and won't hire Americans without a twin Otter Type and I don't want to live in Puerto Rico so that nixes Eagle and MAC...Liat isn't hiring and won't hire Americans unless there are no other applicants, same for Caribbean Airlines, Jamaica Airlines.

I got a little over 2700 tt, 2200 turbine and 500 PIC, Dash 8 SIC.. I'm familiar with a lot of the carriers down there but I'm far from knowing all of them or the smaller companies or charter outfits I might have a chance with. Anybody have any suggestions?

It's really hard to get hired as foreign, and to be honest, there is not that much flying around there. With your times you should try in South East Asia..

My Dads company operates some planes there, but they can't hire foreign since the govt won't give them a license, they force them to look for locals...

I have some contacts in Belize if you want, I don't wanna share them on the thread but you can send me a pm, you have enough flight time to work there but I really doubt they are hiring right now.
 
Thanks for the response. Not really interested in Belize. I don't care for Central America, been there a few times and don't like the "feel".

As far as SE Asia, I have done some research and even sent a few resumes that way but it does seem that an ATP and appropriate type rating is the benchmark qualifier for expats over there and I don't have either.

San Pedro in Belize does not look any different than any island in the Caribbean. Central America is a lot better then most places in the Caribbean as far as Aviation (better MX). Most operators of the southern part of the Caribbean have like 3-4 routes, you will be flying to the same places all day. Lots of small operators can`t fly intl so they fly to like two airports. In most French places you need a JAA/JAR license to fly, and they have a ton of French pilots to do that. You are left with very few options if you don`t wanna stay in the PR area, keep in mind that PR also means US Virigin Island. Most Islands in front of Venezuela are operated by companies from Venezuela, not only Isla Margarita but also the Dutch Antilles and Aruba, not a chance there as US citizen.

In Santo Domingo you can`t work as a pilot if not a citizen

Belize is really your only option here, Costa Rica and Panama have many local pilots (but if you speak Spanish....maybe). Haiti in the past was an option too, many foreign pilots over there and lots of cargo flying (but I don`t know how it looks right now).

What`s left?? few Commonwealth Islands?? yeah because I think you kind of need to speak some Dutch to work in the Dutch ones

As far as South East Asia I can tell you that there are many foreign pilots in Malaysia, lots of Europeans got hired there after been working in the African bush, with no IFR or multi time...Your best bet is to get a contact, some pilot over there that can give your resume to the right person.

other places require you to be a resident, you should look a bit more into that, unless you retire there or open a biz, they will only give you a residence and work permit if you marry a local. When they need expat pilots they usually get Canadians, they get in a lot easier as part of the Commonwealth, this is why there are some many of them there...
 
Does anyone have any inside info on Vieques Air Link? I was in Isla Grande in August and they must've flown in and out of there like 20 times in the two afternoons I was waiting at the FBO...
 
Also I have an internal rec at Air T and C. They are haphazardly hiring some locals who get preference over outsiders of course. But I did get a 'maybe' letter back from they're CP who was very professional and friendly. They do have some Americans there... no info on pay though but the guy I know commuted from Miami and still had a crashpad in Provo so hopefully its commensurate with the expensive COL on the island.
