anyone live in pampa? I may have a job offer there and just trying to get all the info I can. I google earthed it and I am aware that I will be leaving the utah mountains for some serious flat lands. Any info or help is greatly appriciated.

No one lives there. Seriously.

I have friends from college (Texas Tech) that grew up around there, though. It is very flat and very windy - that's actually the windiest region in the country. Makes it hard to fly or play golf. You will, however, get some awesome sunsets. And if you like peace and solitude - then West Texas is the place for you. I loved my 3 years in Lubbock - nice to live life at a slower pace for awhile.

Funny cause I noticed they have 2 golf courses. And unfortunately the job is based in pampa and requires that I live in pampa.

I will say, though - you'll meet some really friendly people out there. It just depends on where you're coming from - you may like it out there. Definitely flat, though. If my wife weren't so picky about having a health food store nearby, I could see myself moving back to West Texas

Pampa is a VERY small town but West Texas is a great place to live and raise a family. Very safe and conservative. I also lived in Lubbock for many years and traveled all over West Texas. I would go back tomorrow if I didnt already have a great job near San Antonio.
Is the job flying for a private individual? If so, I have a friend that used to fly for the only guy in town with enough money to own corporate. If you want to PM me, I may be able to give you more insight.:)

Is this the AMF outstation by any chance? I've flown in and out of Pampa quite a bit back in the day. If that "is" the case then I would tell them that you want the Vernon outstation. If that "isn't" the case and it is some sort of corporate gig I would try to live 40 minutes SW of Pampa and live on the outskirts of NE Amarillo which is a pretty decent town.

It' a corporate gig, and living in amarillo might not be a bad idea. thanks

You'll learn to shorten your follow-through, hood your irons, and develop a wicked punch shot with a 3-iron from the rough. You gotta keep the ball low and out of the wind out there.

Are you single? If so, head down to Lubbock on the weekends - Tech has some of the most beautiful women in the country. Dumb, but beautiful.

nope! married with 2 kids. works out ok though cause I can still look at the beautiful women without finding out how stupid they are.

I've been on TDY to Pampa more than a few times. It's a small "oil rich" town. Theres really nothing there as far as entertainment is concerned. Like someone said earlier, it would best to live in AMA. You might have a 45 minute to an hour ride to work though.

You drive to Amarillo to the Big Texan Steak Ranch and try to eat the 72 oz. steak.

What do I win if I eat the whole thing? Besides the obvious clogged colon?

You become a Texas legend - which would serve you better if you were single, but that's ok :)

Oh, one good thing about W. Texas - the Shiner Bock beer flows freely.

There is nothing between Canada and Pampa but a barbed wire fence, and it has been blown down. It would be a great place to raise the kids, and live a simple life. Cold winters and HOT summers. Depends on what you are looking for. I have lived in Lubbock for 10 yrs, and it is starting to wear on me. My main gripe is that you are at least 3 hrs away from anything different. The wind gets really old to, at least up there, there isn't as much dirt to be blown around.

Just to second what he said, it's a great place to go for peace and quiet, and for time to reflect. Most people eventually get done reflecting and decide to move away. It's an obscure movie, but if you can find "Dancer Texas: Population 81" you'll learn everything you need to know about small towns in West Texas.

Great little movie. I liked that one a lot.
