looking for anything

Hey guys,

I'm a brand new cfi with only about 7 dual given. I'm basically looking for anything to get me going.

My qualifications are in my signature and I'm at 350TT/87ME.

On a side note, the economy is making me ponder joining the Air Force or ANG. Would this be a bad choice in terms of flying?

Thanks everyone!

i was you one month ago except i have a cfii. i definitely reccommend getting that, it really only takes a week of flying if you are good at instruments. then apply at USFA in TX. they stopped hiring in Denton but are still hiring at the new Hondo location. If you decide to go services, the advice i got was make sure you get what you want before you sign anything or they will give you what they want. with the flight experience already you should have more of a say. good luck.

The OP's signature clearly shows his qualifications which include CFI/CFII/MEI.

Cameronf, I heard a rumor that the company who has the contract to provide initial training for Air Force pilots may be hiring instuctors. I can't remember their name off the top of my head, but they operate of of Pueblo, CO and I hear them on the radio all the time.

Cool, thanks guys I'll look into it right now!

Update- Looks like nothing is posted on their job openings. Should I go ahead and submit an application anyways?

I would! And follow up with a call. I only heard a rumor that they might be hiring, but it never hurts to try.

Submit apps everywhere you can and follow up with phone calls. Some places don't advertise that they are looking, but some places are really bad at updating their websites too.

Have you tried Mid-State Aviation yet in KELN?

I heard that Harvey field, Snohomish Flying Service may be looking for full-time instructors too.

Wings Aloft at KBFI may also be looking.

And I really hate to mention them, but you may also try Acuwings in KRNT.

Good luck and just be careful with small time operators.

As far as joining the ANG or Reserves.... to me there isn't a better opportunity out there. But that's me. Don't do it for the flying. Do it to serve and because it means something to you. Remember.... Pilot is what you do Officer is what you are. So if that sounds like something you want than do it.... if not stick with the CFI'ing.

Thanks, I'll look into those too!

Since I'm new at this whole thing, what is the best way about doing the follow-up call? If a job isn't posted and I still submit my stuff, what should I say?

Constructive?

I don't see you contributing anything to this thread.

Anyone who reads my posts knows that I try and be helpful, but the tagline of:

"Bachelor's in Business Management"

Gave me the impression that he knew how to follow up on a job hunt. But anyway, him and I have cleared it up through PMs already.

Follow up: "Hello, is this Chief Pilot Bigshot? My name is Desperate CFI...is this a good time, do you have a minute? Thanks, I just wanted to call and make sure my resume made it to your desk...I've heard a lot of good things about Dirtbag Flying Service and I just wanted to follow up and see whether you had any questions for me regarding my qualifications to work for you! Fantastic, I'm available 9-5 Monday through Sunday except when the soup kitchen is serving, when would be most convenient for you? OR Thanks so much for your time, and I will keep my resume updated!"

I would say its time to get outta Spokompton. Great place to call home, NOT a great place for CFI gigs. Go to somewhere like AZ, FL, CA and start bangin on flight school doors!

I agree, I am currently trying to get on with instructing at ATP.
