Looking for some sort of flying job in the Socal area. I have 330TT, 20 Complex, 50 Tailwheel, HP endorsement. Commercial SEL, Instrument, and will have my Multi at the end of the month! Maybe banner towing, glider towing? Thanks!

Banner towing around here (LA&OC) requires a ton of hours. I have a friend that does it and I think they require over TT1000 and 100 Tailwheel. Get your CFI, some schools up here are hiring.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I've seen (banner towing here), I'm willing to relocate for the right job.

Not interested in doing the CFI thing.

Aerial banners inc, out in Florida are hiring. I have less time then you and they told me they would give me a class/start date if I got the tail wheel.

They said that you would start out in south Florida flying every day. Then in spring/summer you would travel all over the country for the season. I don't remember the pay.

Good on you for not following the CFI path if you're passion isn't in teaching. Too many see it as a mandatory career step.

Yep, I think it could be neat, but I want to fly. I'll be the old fart doing the CFI thing as my retirement.

Call up Van Wagner. You have the tailwheel time to get hired. $40/hr flying super cubs all over the country. Plus its way better then aerial banners.

Yes true.

When I was offered a position with aerial banners I did some research on this site and found nothing but bad things!

Its not the pilots, its the management. Although I did witness and hear on the radio one of their pilots bust a TFR last year... that wasnt too good. I know several VW guys that have all said good things. Ive worked with a few aerial banner guys that have a lot of bad things to say. Banner towing is actually a pretty small community of operators, and they contract out to each other a lot. So word gets around when you are shady.

That sound like what I've heard. One buy told me to stay away from "so and so" who is the manager at aerial banners. Then turns out "so and so" is the one who contacted me for the interview haha. I have talked to a few former aerial banner pilots who are all good pilots. It's just unfortunate how some people choose to run their companies.

But nevertheless, I mentioned the company so the original poster would have options. I'm a low timer myself so we might have to just take what we can get.

Banner towing is a great option for low timers with no CFI. I got a banner towing job with 270TT (125 TW), and built 900 hours in 2 summers and paid for my CFI with the money I made rag dragging... If you cant afford to get a CFI right now, its definitely an option.

I'll check that out, thanks! I've found resumes@vanwagner.com but I'll keep looking for a telephone number..

Edit: I found the Chief Flight Instructor's number, Kyle 954-372-4910. Someone on another forum posted they were given that number to call when they inquired with the front desk about flying there. Number is still correct and I left a message with them!

Keep an eye out for survey stuff if you're wiling to live on the road. Not the hiring time right now but people quit mid season. Where are you out of in CA?

Will do, I should get my resume into those companies. I live in Fullerton, about 30 miles from Los Angeles.

No CFI?... no job for you!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I landed a gig with Van Wagner to do banner towing.
When do you start flying? I'm based in long beach but I don't have my tail wheel endorsement. I would get the endorsement if it's a for sure gig
