Looking at possible lateral move

I didn't read all the responses but here's my take: don't include a scab in your circle of friends or mentors. Those guys are few and far between and will soon be long gone. Unions are what makes this a career, not just a bus driver job. If we don't stick together the corporations will beat us down to less than a Walmart greeter and have fun doing it. Union's are the only way we can fight back.

You already made the decision to upgrade and do a 3 legger. Stick with it. I don't think the total 121 PIC currently matters as much as that you are CURRENTLY logging 121 PIC. I have my ATP, a type and 120 hours of 121 PIC but haven't logged it in 5 years and have had no luck, yet. OK, I got a wink and a pep talk from Captain Repp, but you've got to do better than that. Take a look at a website that has current interview experiences listed and see who's getting hired. It's mainly people with some PIC. You chose this path. Don't 2nd guess yourself until you are sure that if a change is not made, you could miss an opportunity. I can respect that many people would never consider a 3 leg commute with a horrible schedule to advance their career but that's their own perspective. From my perspective, I have spent months at a time away from my family in my military career and we are doing just fine. Unless you are thinking about making a career out of 3 leg commutes, in which it better be worth it or I would be 2nd guessing myself, stick it out!

If you're on an Internet board asking people if you should make a move, then it's probably the wrong decision.

When the right opportunity comes along, it will be a no brainer and you won't have to come here asking what to do.

While I don't condone being a scab, would NEVER cross a picket line, and would never use them as a reference to get hired, it's not as simple as this. Growing up many of my dads GA friends were scabs, and I didn't know this until I got in the airline industry. I grew up in Houston so u can imagine there are quite a few around, some of which we shared a hanger with. My dad is pretty disappointed in me that I didn't use their recommendations when offered.....

Yes, it is as simple as that.
So u would suggest to quit talking to people that I've known for 30 years and grew up with their kids? And have flown their planes my entire life? It's not that simple. My point is don't fault someone for knowing a scab. My ex roommate flies for united and used three internal recs from scabs and it worked fine for him. I'm choosing not to use the recs.

I guess RAH and Gojetzzz didn't get the memo...

Sounds like your current situation sucks. People will say to stick it out cause something good is right around the corner. I say get comfy cause, I know too many people who make SERIOUS sacrifices that in no way have paid off. You could be waiting anywhere from 1-15 years for your "break" to come. If your current situation sucks and won't improve in the next 12 months, I vote make the move.

I'd heard legend of the master scab list, but being a younger guy... I'd never seen it until now. That's one impressive compilation! It was interesting to read through some of the annotations associated with some of the names. There's a few that have notes about the fact that they've changed their name multiple times. I noticed at least one that was both a UAL scab and an EAL scab. In for a penny, in for a pound I guess must be the logic there. Bloody hell.

One in particular stood out to me... C.D. Albury. The notes say he was the Enola Gay Co-Pilot. I can't imagine being one of only a handful of individuals who used nuclear weapons against a full city of civilians, then managed to be an EAL Scab. I don't think I'd get a good night of sleep ever again.

He wasnt the co-pilot or even part of the crew http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enola_Gay

He's on there. So what? He has a QOL that he loves, loves to fly, has been on great planes, currently is on a great plane (if the battery fix is actually that), has had a very successful USAF and civilian career, and wouldn't trade anything for the world. Way I see it... it's all wins for him, so now what's your point exactly?

You have to be kidding me! Your view that it's not a big deal to scab is sad.

Your attitude sucks, As long as you get yours, life is great and nobody else matters. Man.... you'd be a great replacement for my current ALPA MEC reps... I hope you like irish car bombs.

The point is that he owes his career to stepping on the backs of his fellow pilots. It's despicable, really.

I say set a deadline. Something realistic, like 6 months from now. Plan to go to as many career fairs as possible. If you don't get an LCC or Major job, then bail.
