Longest break from flying

Since October 2008. My job moved me overseas and I'm hoping being away for 2 years won't make me too rusty... I definitely agree that it will depend upon how much I think and read about aviation while grounded.

Four months, I broke my leg on new years day (Backyard Football). I was working on my private.

It took me about one lap around the traffic pattern to get the feel of the plane back. Landing was the hardest to come back and took the longest.

Many of the maneuvers were not so bad coming back, I tried to go over them while I was required to not move too much.

Best of luck,

Matt

My last flight at the controls was March 22, 2008. The past year I have been sitting sideways on the panel. I just finished my 4th sim session today, in the DC-9. So far, the hardest part is getting used to the lack of automation.

It's been 6 months now, and I'm getting worried. I've been furloughed since the beginning of Oct 08. I have a family, so I can't even come close to being able to afford renting a plane while on unemployment. I'm starting to wonder "Who's gonna hire me now, the rusty pilot. With all the competition out there, they can hire someone more current." For the last three years I was flying anywhere from 30-45 hours a week, and now nothing!:(

I'll chime in here I guess

flew in early 2003 for a few hours after I got my instrument rating...didn't start backup til november 2008. Not horribly long, but in my opinion way too long. I don't know how I went that long wihtout flying.
I did make one trip up to first flight airport as a passenger/pilot and that was pretty awesome.
