Long Beach vs Riverside

I am considering going through the ACPP self-paced option in the LA area. I have done some research on both locations and it seems that Riverside is the more popular location. I am curious about how many students attend each, how many instructors there are, and how many sims each place has. Long Beach would be a more convienent location, but I am considering Riverside.

LGB is a one plane/one instructor location, so it's pretty small. Not sure how much delay/inconvenience there might be operating out of a somewhat busy (and very confusing!) airport.

RAL is an ATP maintenance base so it's pretty big. I know they have a sim...not sure about LGB. The office seemed pretty nice and they have several instructors.

I did my Commercial and Instrument (though not with ATP) at Long Beach. Busy - yes, but very few delays and providing you look at the airfield diagrams beforehand it's not that confusing either.

Riverside = Rivertucky!!!
IMHO I like LGB (Long Beach better.) Riverside Airport is not very appealing to me. (I have seen many airports in my day!)
Good luck.

Actually we have 2 instructors in LGB and another one on the way here in the next few days.

I recommend Riverside for the simple fact that they offer the 90 day program. I hated the 10 month program. Most instructors do too. Go to riverside, stay in the apt, get done in 90 days and go back home. otherwise the Self paced program is truly 10 months. They say it can be done in 4 months or whatever, but honestly its not gonna happen. That location is too busy. They might be sending another instructor, but are the sending another plane???

Riverside has 2 sims, and its a quiet airport. LAX dogs RAL, but I think its great for training. WIth a handle like LAX airport, he probably likes busy airports and seeing all the airliners. I do too. but for training its unnecessary. Dont worry, You'll get a heatlhy dose of busy airspace and radio congestion at RAL. So dont think you'll get jipped (sp?) because you flew out of a slow field. It is towered.

Blee, I think it's gypped (comes from a derogatory term for gypsy). But then again, what do I know... I did all my training at small, uninteresting airports.

As to the origional question... If you really are doing the 10 month program (and I agree with Blee that if AT ALL possible that 90 is a better option) both airports are going to work equally well. What you should look at is your commute times to get there. Airspace and airport layouts are pretty generic. You'll see pretty much everything at one point or another so don't worry about where you see it too much. Riverside is something of the ghetto (and I mean that in a nice way) but then again, LGB isn't in the best of areas either. My recomendation is go walk around both for a little bit and see which one YOU like more.
