login problems in the new forum software

after hearing about the problems your having with the software, I think we've determined that the problem may be with the passwords.

If clearing the cookies doesn't work for you, it may be a password problem.

So we're going to get with technical support and have them help us figure out how to fix the problem.

IN THE MEANTIME: if you need/want to get into the site and haven't already, please try clearing the cookies on your machine first - if that doesn't work, then PM me (I'm here all day) or email to doug@jetcareers.com and tell us what password you want us to put in as your user password. Please use a different password than what you originally had... then...

Once you've entered the forum - please change your password back to whatever the original jetcareers password was.

Because if technical support is able to correct the issue, then the board will have your original password saved and not the new password.

we really do apologize about the problems.. things are always bound to come up, so if you see any other problems or what not, please let us know so we or technical support can fix them!

any questions?!

On the old board I had a 'username' that was different from my 'screenname' (MQAAord). Putting in the old username would not let me sign in, but using my screenname did.

Also, I went in and deleted the old jetcareers cookies and let the site set new ones. It's been fine from there out.

yeah.. i'm pretty sure the problem is with the cookies as tech support said that it "can't" be a password problem...

so i'm putting up a cookie script and will have that up here soon for everyone to click on...

Ditto to what Amber said. If your "original" sign-in name is different than your current name, you must sign in with teh current name. This was different than before, but that is how I got in as well.

Thanks Amber, I did that ( log in with my screen name, which was diferent to my log in name, and the same password ) and worked just fine.

And thanks a zillion for everyone's patience.

I tried dillegently to get everything done saturday evening so I could spent sunday error checking the install but customer "no service" at my dedicated hosting provider pushed everything back until sunday.

It mostly worked, but I got the 'double monday morning whammy' when I'm headed back to work and the traffic predictably skyrockets multiplying login issues.

An another special 'thank you' goes out to Kristie. While I was inflight commuting to SLC digging thru email, she was working her tail off at her office working on jetcareers stuff when she's supposed to be working on her own stuff.

Sorry about the 'generic look' that we had to revert to, but the other template that I purchased and modified to match the 'look-feel' of the site worked like crap.

Again, thanks for your patience, let us know if you're still having problems and welcome!

actually, the other site look-feel is fine, it's just missing a "log out" button! so we'll get that fixed up and then put the other display back up.

So what your saying is that once the "log out" button issue is fixed. On the other site.
Jetcareers will be transforming before our eyes yet again?
Kool cause last night wasn't sure if this was JC or Flightinfo...: )

BTW, Kristie, I tried to PM you, but it says your mailbox is full!
I fixed that Mike...

I adjusted the mailbox so that everyone will be able to have 200 PM's (TOTAL)...once you go over that total, you can no longer accept PM's...

however, note that you can now download your PM's!! it's a GREAT feature!!

uh no... once the log out button is fixed on the old style of this new site, then we'll put up the style (and/or skin) that matches the top of the page...

we're not going back to the old UBB ways and it's only going to get better!! :)

I have a question:
You know how is says 'member' or 'administrator'? Is it possible to change that in this new software?

Well, if you're not a member, chances are you're an 'admin' or a 'moderator'.

I could change it, but wouldn't tht be 'semantics'? :)

Well, I have seen on other forum software you can change it to say anything you want. For example: 'Resident Eskimo','Super Silly Person', 'Caution: Sarcasm', etc.

I tried changing my email address from my hotmail account to my new gmail account and it tells me my email address has been blocked. Are gmail email addys not allowed?

gmail, hotmail, yahoo, and any other free e-mail services. You'd be amazed at the number of Russian spammer who use these services to pollute forums with spam...

Because I need people to register with a non web-based email address.

Reasons? Security.

Why? Whenever someone wants to flame or spam the boards, they'll get a yahoo, gmail, etc type email address, get approved, login and flame the boards. We'll axe the account, but then they'll simply reacquire a *new* yahoo/gmail/hotmail account and be back online in two minutes.

People are less apt to screw with the boards if they know we have traceable information.
