Logging time

Well there have been quite a few posts in regard to logging time. So i have a question on a new situation.

I work for a charter company (not as a pilot at the moment), they operate single pilot IFR in a fleet of twin piston, turboprop, and a couple jet aircraft.

I am time building right now for my commercial, however do not have my private or instrument just yet.

Long story short, i started flying at 13 finished all my private requirements passed the written. I then continued onto the instrument, passed that written, and now i will take the commercial written in July, as well as continue to build time. I plan on completing both private and instrument checkrides upon turning 17(which is fairly soon), then commercial checkride at 18.

So I am ready to accelerate, its just an age issue at the moment.

So the question is on the part 135/91 flights, is it loggable time if the captain is a MEI?

I am NOT being compensated, i'm only filling the right seat wich is empty anyway, and taking advantage of the fact that the PIC is an MEI.

I don't think you can log it as PIC, (not multi Rated) you can however log the hours as dual received, while he is instructing you, as long as he is willing to sign your logbook as your instructor.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of answers on this, just hang on:panic:

You won't be able to touch the controls on the 135 legs but on the part 91 portion you can get dual instruction and log it. The problem is you're not getting any PIC time. You need 50 hours PIC XC for the instrument and 100 PIC total time for the commercial.

So you should go do some training in a regular aircraft and start getting some of the solo time out of the way.

Agree with both comments.

I wouldn't not be touching controls on the 135 legs, and it would be logged as dual received.

I still fly to get the PIC time, just thought for the purposes or TT it could be beneficial.

My thinking was just in an interview scenario. Logging this time as such is perfectly legal, how would it look in an interview.

If an MEI was present that would be the only response necessary i would think.

Great replies,
thanks

If this type of time building filled the majority of your log book then yes you would have some problems in an interview. However if you went on to get the CFI and had 500-1000 dual given I don't see it as a problem at all. You are young and have a very good head start so I would suggest getting the CFI to build the rest of your time and skills.

If you do not even have your private (or recreational) then you have nothing that can be logged except for instruction received.

Yes, if the captain is willing to endorse it as dual. Probably not kosher for the 135 flights but ok for the 91 flights.

dont' written exams expire after 24 months and you have to retake?

Yes they do, i have taken that into account and have given myself some slack, just in case weather is bad on checkride day, and is rescheduled for a later date.
