Logging sim (level D) time for Regional initial training?

I was just curious if you should/do/did log time spent in the sim when getting training for the SIC type? It is a level D sim, I only have a couple hours of FTD training from back in the days of my instrument training but thats it.... It would seem that you would need to log it since its training towards a type rating, but its only an SIC type and with a 121 carrier that keeps track of it also.... ideas? also- if you do log it, how do you log it?

There is no training time requirement for a type rating, only the need to demonstrate proficiency. Hence, you don't need to log it.

All that is irrelevent for 121 ops, since all the necessary requirements are tracked in your training record.

Initial FO training was 24hrs in the sim, upgrade training was 24 hrs in the sim.

I didn't log any of the sim time, even though the instructor said it counted for time in my logbook. I didn't bother logging any of the instrument approaches or the instrument flight time either.

The only place the simulator was mentioned was on the 8710-1 for the ATP and type rating, where it said 2 hrs in the simulator for the ATP/type ride.

I didn't log it during initial training at PCL. As far as currency goes, you'll be well current by the time you log PIC again unless you want to fly out of an FBO on the side. :)

If I WERE to log it, it would be in a separate column and not added to my total time.

I didn't log any of my level D time. Actually, I've never logged any "sim" time in my book. Just don't see the need to have that time cluttering my logbook......after all, none of it counts toward TT so, what's the point????

Don't bother logging is my $.02

Thanks, I havent logged sim time in the past (except for a little for instrument rating). I just wasnt sure what the norm was. I did have the impression of it being pointless.

The only sim time I logged was when I was workin on my Comm since it could count towards the rating. Other than that, I've just let it go.

I logged it as sim time, I didn't count the approaches etc.

I logged it because I thought at some future point somebody important might be looking through my logbook and say "I thought you were an FO at a regional, where is that training?" I'm not saying it needs to be in there, but why get into that discussion, just put in the line and there it is.

Reasonable people may decide that's the stupidest justification they've ever heard, and they may be right.

You could always show them pay stubs or something from the company. You could also try to access your training records.

I know some people that log the sim stuff just for currency purposes. For example (now I know I'm gonna jinx myself here) I haven't had to do a hold in quite some time.
