Logging PIC with Dual flights at UND (a well beaten topic!)

DEs are not PIC in the aircraft unless that agree to it before hand (I've only seen it once when a guy had a forign medical and was getting a US ATP). I've had guys bust an multi private add on and log the multi PIC before they were actually rated in the multi airplane. It's legal. As to the UND thing... I ran into several times with students be sligthly short of the 15 hours of multi PIC required for the MEI. Not all UND campuses do it. The one in PHX didn't. They logged their students PIC correctly, however the main branch in ND and the HI campus seemed to have problems with that. The reason I was given when I called to follow up on it was that only ONE person in an aircraft can log PIC at a time and this way the instructor was able to log the PIC. I think that is a bunch of bull, but that is the reasoning I got.

....well, this was 1990.... so... draw your own conclusions! :p
Then he was right. Part the 1997 Part 61 revision changed 61.51 to allow a student pilot to log PIC during solo flight. Couldn't before.

Why don't you just write it in? It's your logbook!;)
it's 1.3, big whoop :p
I guess it counts towards the experience requirements if I had my MEI, but seeing how I haven't touched a ME airplane in 4 years I don't think it'll matter.

Ok, I just got into a huge discussion with my roommate about that. We are both UND students, but I stopped flying here at UND after I got my private and went to ATP (thank god, but that's a whole different story). Anyway, he doesn't believe me that he could go back and log PIC in his logbook. I agree with BobDDuck, the whole thing is bull, the student is paying lots of money here for his flight training and I think UND students should be able to log PIC.
