Logging Multi PIC

Ive heard that you can actually log the first 10 hours of you multi training as PIC. 61.129 (b)(4) Is this correct?

You are correct and I don't have anything to back this up with, but I believe your instructor must make some sort of "notation" in your logbook about those flights in which you gain those 10 hours as "acting as PIC, under supervision" or something to that effect.

False. Logging PIC is not governed by 61.129, it's governed by 61.51(e). You can only log PIC time for the time when you are the sole manipulator of the controls of an aircraft for which you are rated. Or, you can log PIC if you're the sole occupant of the aircraft.

The 61.129(b)(4) paragraph just allows you to credit the time performing the duties as PIC for the 100 hours of PIC time required in paragraph (b)(2). The time isn't actually PIC time.

We are sure it is legal..but when you ask for it in writing they can't find.
Oh, but it is not legal. 61.129(b)(4) makes an exception to the 10 hours solo requirement and allows an instructor to be on board while making the exception to the rule. 61.129 does not make it PIC. It does not make any exception to FAR 61.51(e) which is The Only FAR that governs logging PIC.

Like the 50 hours sim time that can be used to get to the 250 hours for the commercial. Using that time in a sim to meet commercial hour requirements does not make it flight time. You still have 200 hours flight time and 50 hours sim time. The sim time is used in leu of the remaining 50 hours flight time.

In 61.129(b)(4) the flight instructor on board is used in leu of actual solo time, and the FAA is accepting that, but it is not logged as PIC.

My comment was meant to point out how often I see and hear "authoritative knowledge" with no written back-up. That's the main bugger in the way we are always contradicting each other..."He said/She said/I said/They said"...doesn't matter what anybody Said...Where is it in writing???
