Logbook issues

I've got a student who's logbook is a mess.
He is a CFI/CFII and came to me to do the MEI addon.
He has incorrectly logged landings, IR time, approaches.
And he asked me what the best way of fixing this would be to go back to each individual line and X over the mistakes.
Or the alternative solution is to just come to the next available line and make a big negative reduction in the fields that are wrong and then make a comment that says that he is correcting mistakes over many pages.

Yep, one line it. Will be far easier to explain down the road than a mess of white out, lined out items, etc. He could also put a small asterisk next any line that was considered in error previously for the record.

How bad, how had he been told to do it

He has logged landings when he assisted the student.
He has logged approaches and IR time that was simulated.
I asked him about it and he said that he was under the impression
that he could log it so that he could have a record of what he had
done with the student in his logbook.

Most of this was done many years ago, and he has since corrected for the current stuff. But he is worried about how this will affect an airline interview.

Are you saying he would print everything from page 1 to current page and take to interview.
Did not know they would accept it, what about for the ATP checkride?

Yep. Have everything electronic, just print it all out. Have never heard of anyone having a problem with that.

My logbook was stolen from my car a few years ago (along with a really nice headset). Thankfully, I already kept an electronic one. No one has ever cared, including examiners/insurance companies/potential employers.

No one will ever care about logging landings.

Logging approaches only matter for currency, if it's in the past no one will care.

If you keep a paper log, fix it with one entry.

When you switch to a electronic logbook, fix the individual entries.

Yeah when I started CFI'ing I was logging landings because the students were not under sole manipulator of the controls and I knew many others who logged landings with their students.

Few months down the road got into the regs and decided probably shouldn't do that for currency and etc just like instrument approaches so I stopped. Nobody seems to care about the landings, to be honest...I guess for night time if you're using up to 25 for an additional 25 hours of night for the ATP.
