Old school USN/USCG SAR crews doing night ocean rescues unaided, with only a searchlight and baro altimeter. Hardcore right there….
Done a few real ones. The NVGs made things so much better! The only true night SAR aircraft were the HH-46s which had dopplar radar which allowed for more precise coupled hovers over water. We took those on the LHA/LHD cruises to provide night SAR capability to the MEU ACE when they needed to do night flight ops.
