Local CFI in Boulder, Colorado arrested for Jan 6 Capitol Breach

Apparently this guy is (or was) a CFI at a local flight school in Boulder. His name appears in the FAA database as well.

“Joseph Charles Valentour, 66, of Centerville, Ohio, and Jonathan Wayne “Duke” Valentour, 26, of Boulder, Colorado, are each charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with felony offenses of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder.”

Yeah, I wonder how that works. Would he still be employable at an airline after being pardoned for violently attacking a police officer (as described in the arresting documents)?
Google tells me (for whatever that's worth these days) that even if you receive a presidential pardon it still shows up on your criminal record. So I'd think a background check is going to raise some eyebrows.

I think this company has a way to figure out what the background check holds. They probably get a lot of questions about things like "A couple years ago I was charged with minor in possession but expunged, do I still have to disclose that?"

I believe an expungement does not have to be disclosed, as once a conviction is “expunged” it legally didn’t happen. Which is of course different that a sealed record.

No idea where a pardon fits into that. Although this person’s name is all over the news so I’d imagine any background check will pick up on him no matter what.

Lord Cheeto has said he’s not looking to pardon the violent ones, merely the lower level offenders—for what that’s worth. Exactly zero of them should be, but anyway.

🦋 is this a disqualifying criminal offense under the TSRs…?

Hah, hopefully they’re not just going by news articles. When I Google myself there’s a lot of articles about someone with the same name as me being charged with some pretty heinous stuff.

What if they never failed a checkride ?

Imagine that interview: “TMAAT when you had to handle a difficult situation.”

“The first night I spent in prison…”

I’ll believe it when the violent ones aren’t pardoned in 4yrs. “Just the tip” is more believable than most of what he says.

2030 airline hiring…

Having a clean record is bad, because airlines can’t see how you’d react if you’d fail. So let’s hire the J6 guy. I mean, it was 10 yrs ago and he’s bettered himself and learned so much!
