Load to Pilot?

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences or knows anyone who has crosstrained from a load to a pilot or navigator. I think this is the route I am going to shoot for with a Guard airlift unit. I know I can search for a slot with another unit also once I feel that I am qualified, but I was just wondering your insight and opinions! What do you think the best case senario would be, for example...be a load for 2 years or so and then go after it, or go after it as soon as a slot comes open, etc! Thanks in advance!

It is possible, I know of 4-5 people that have done it.
I know of a Former load flying 130's at Little Rock in the guard, (she was a load, crossed to FE, then got commission and now is a right seater) her husband is finishing Nav school at the Rock and is going active duty somewhere.
So yes, it can be done. You just need to put in some hard work to get there.

There are 6 or 7 pilots in my unit that used to be loadmasters. I'm also a loadmaster and am working on becoming a pilot. It's one of the easiest ways to get to pilot training.

What about possibly even a Nav ?? Would that be just as feasible ?

Sure its possible. A lot of guys only want to get a pilot slot, but don't rule out the possiblity of going to nav training, especially if you can't pass the pilot physical. The nav requirements are less stringent. There are a lot of units hurting for navs lately.
