Seattle Pro's & Con's?

Thanks,

Well, it's one of the prettier large cities I've been around. Stunning on a nice day. People are pretty nice. Bad traffic on the freeways, bad weather, and expensive real estate. Personally, I'd find a more rural area outside Seattle. Vashon Island, Brainbridge, Port Townsend, Anacortes, San Juans. Not cheaper but more laid back and pretty. Still, the weather is gonna suck and that's what drove me out. Eastern WA is way cheaper and the weather is better.

I liked it.

Wet.

Seasonal but not overly hot or cold. Occasional snow in winter. Decent summer weather.

People drive like it's their first time there and they are lost. Generally well educated. Big hipster scene.

Lot's of airports. No state income tax. Moderate sales tax, high gas tax, emissions testing and high vehicle tax. Public transport is one of the better ones, although that's not saying much.

Great food. Huge variety from fine dining to small sandwich shops. Seafood is especially good. Beer is good too. Almost as good as Portland for microbrews.

It's a wonderful city and a terrific state. I would live there myself if all my family were not in So. Ca. Great fishing, very nice beaches, Boeing, lots of lakes, lots of arts and music/cultural events and museums,, great restaurants (especially seafood) , skiing, hiking, bike riding, National Parks, great used bookstores, you can live more in the boonies/trees by moving outside of the city, Boeing, terrific aquarium, coffee shops galore, nice people, crime rates are not bad at all, but there are parts of the city you want to avoid (as is the case in all major cities in this country), it's very green there which is nice, oh and did I mention Boeing? lol You have the best of several worlds there.

Come out and visit Cousin!

We've got 10 gallons of beer kegged and kin folk too!

I'm loving Honolulu better than Seattle. It feels like Seattle but with better weather, less traffic and much nicer people. Miss the family and snowboarding though.

staplegun, come on out and visit, if you let me know ahead of time and I'm in town, I'll be more than happy to drive you around and show you the areas.

I commute from ATL to SEA and I love the change of pace I get when I head out to SEA.

What type of living are you looking for? Are you looking to get out of town or be in town?

I love the Redmond/Bellevue/Kirkland/Kenmore area on the NE side of Seattle off of I-405. If you're looking more in town, West Seattle/Capitol Hill/Queen Anne and Magnolia are some nice (but can be pricey). On the opposite side of Seattle, Bainbridge Island (where Polar's at), Silverdale, Poulsbo and Gig Harbor.

Food in Seattle is awesome as is the local microbrews. Shopping downtown is fairly diverse.

People in Seattle are AWFUL drivers...you'd think with all the rain they'd be better, nope. They also don't understand the concept of "passing traffic on the left, slower traffic on the right".

All in all, Seattle doesn't have very effective interstate/road system.

Oh, Solve the transit problem. Live west of the city, ride the ferry and take a train to the airport.

Pretty much agree with all of the above (except for the recommendation to live in Eastern WA over Seattle). Great food, even better beer, some of the best summer weather in the country, the traffic sucks and the mass transit system sucks even more. Come out and visit in July-September and I guarantee you'll dig it

Oh, and don't forget all the snowboarding/skiing, climbing, hiking, backpacking, surfing, etc in the area as well
